Hot Springs, Arkansas info
Hello, all. I live in Austin and DH and I are thinking about driving to Hot Springs this coming weekend. Can anyone please tell me if the fall foliage is still going, or are we too late? Also, what are the don't-miss sites in Hot Springs? I know there are a lot of bath houses--which one is the best? Thanks.

Hi P.M.!
We have been to Hot Springs twice. We are going for our third time over Thanksgiving as we head to Texas. The hotels have bath houses but we prefer the Buckstaff Bath House which is in the middle of a row of Bathhouses no longer used as Bathhouses. We usually stay at the Arlington Hotel which is historic and a few blocks from the Buckstaff, in a good area to walk everywhere. This time we are trying a B&B which claims to also be within walking distance and sounds lovely. However, have not been there yet. Have fun and post a report on your return! |
I'd like to add to empty out your large soda bottles in advance of your trip. The townsquare has free spring water spitos for people to fill up their containers.

what the * is a spitos?? My new keyboard is slower than my typing. I meant to type 'spigots'

Thank you, cd and wsoxrebel.
Since I posted this I have had a strange and unexpected turn of events. To make a long story short, my little car has been given a death sentence!! :-O I got this news late yesterday afternoon, so DH and I agreed that we should spend this weekend looking at cars. However, cd has given me a fabulous idea. Maybe we should go to Hot Springs over Thanksgiving weekend? We could visit my mom in Northeast TX on Thanksgiving day, then head up to AR for the remainder of the weekend. And by then we will be driving our snazzy new car. I will run this by DH, and perhaps cd and I will have a mini-Fodors GTG in Hot Springs. :-) |

That would be so cool, except we'll be there on our WAY to Houston. On our way back, we're going to stay in Natchaz. We were planning on New Orleans but Katrina changed those plans. |
NW Arkansas is stunning in the Fall, but beware the local yahoos driving 20 + y/o pickups mostly in your approaching lane around blind curves.
Driving 140+ mph on die Autobahnen is a walk in the park in comparison. M |
