Hostels in the Olympic National Park area? Thor Town Intl Hostel?

I am looking for a decent, inexpensive place to stay in late August near Olympic National Park. There is a hostel called "Thor Town" in Port Angeles. Anyone know anything about this place? It's not affiliated with any hosteling organization as far as I can see. Just a privately owned place with cheap private rooms.

Anybody stayed here? Good? Bad?

If not, anyone know a good place (preferably with a kitchen/kitchenette or at least a microwave/fridge combo) in Port Angeles or nearby Olympic National Park?

Some of my friends have stayed at Ft Worden and liked it

I, too, have heard good things about Ft. Worden, whereas what I've read about Thor Town and the Port Angeles KOA is pretty grim. On the downside, Ft. Worden isn't a convenient location for exploring the Olympic National Park.

Unfortunately, room rates are at their highest on the Olympic Peninsula in August.

If you don't have camping equipment, I suggest you check into some of the older motels in Port Angeles such as All-View, Flagstone, Sportsmen, and Riviera Inn.

I think I'll be checking into the older hotels, since although I've got camping equipment, it would be a major hassle to bring it out via plane.

Thanks for the suggestions, though. I am excited about going to the Olympic Peninsula, and that's what counts!

Would you consider renting camping equipment? Here is the link to R.E.I. rentals: http://www.rei.com/stores/rentals.html

The Seattle store is on the fringe of downtown. Their toll-free number is 888 873-1938

Cool idea. I'll check it out!
