Looking for clean, safe, hostel for 21 adults on church trip to stay for 7 nights. Would be helpful to be near a subway station. Any sugestions would be helpful.

891 Amsterdam Avenue. 1 block from the subway. Hostel International- http://www.hinewyork.org/
If you find a cheaper place it will not be clean or safe.

Agree that Hosteling International gets good grades. It is also enormous - even runs some of it;s own tours. But you must contact them in advance for reservations. I believe a bed/locker in a shared dorm room is about $40 per night - but with so many people, ask about what private group rooms they have available.

When we stayed at the Club Quarters, we'd walk past the Big Apple hostel on our way to Times Square and the theater district. Before we left, we popped in to see if they could show us a room. They didn't have any to show us, but a girl by the desk offered to show us photos on her cell photo.

The location was fine and it seemed like a decent place.

Big Apple – 119 W. 45th

For a church trip, I'd check a group rate with the YMCA. That's your best bet.

Oh ... and there are many other YMCAs in NYC that offering housing besides the Vanderbilt YMCA. You might want to check out the options in Brooklyn and Queens, too.
