Horseshoe Bend, Page, AZ

I have read about the location of the "Horseshoe Bend Overlook," and that from that parking lot, the overlook is 3/4 of a mile away, via a trail consisting mostly of loose desert sand, which can be somewhat of a strenuous hike. However, someone told me that there is another overlook which requires no walking. Is that true, and is the view almost as good?

As I recall, the other overlook is of the Glen Canyon Dam, not Horseshoe bend. We did the hike out to Horseshoe bend and did not find it "strenuous" at all. It is through sand, but there is not much change in elevation, so kind of like walking to the beach.

If you want to see that kind of formation without a hike, go to Goosenecks of the San Juan state park, near Mexican Hat.

I haven't heard of any other overlook for Horseshoe Bend. You would think if there was one the park service would have it on their map. http://www.nps.gov/glca/planyourvisi...oe%20Bend2.pdf

I would not call the hike strenuous and I'm in my mid 60's. It's not all on sand. Wear good walking shoes...don't wear flip flops.

You can experience Horseshoe Bend by taking the float trip on the Colorado River out of Page, AZ.

I also don't recall another overlook at horseshoe bend. If I had known of one with no trail, I would have taken my parents to it. They didn't want to hike out to the one on the NPS website so I went and they stayed behind. I wish they would have gone but there is no shade so wear shoes that provide traction, a hat and take water with you. We went in April.

Thanks for the replies. Yes, I have been to the Gooseneck State Park, and it was great!
