Hoover Dam since 9/11...Is it still worth visiting?

We will be in LAs Vegas next week (first time).

I had heard a lot about Hooover Dam and hoped to visit. Someone told me that since 9/11 the tour at Hoover Dam is not worth the trip. Is that true?

If we do go, how much time should we allow from Vegas to the Dam and back?

Thanks for your help.

Have only been there post-9/11 and we enjoyed it. Allow half a day.

The cost of the tour remains $10.00US,but the tour is much different and shorter than prior to 9/11.You no longer can go deep into the facility/tunnels or down to the river level,
What they do offer is a peek(after going thru a security check) and in an elevator ride(with an armed officer).
The dam is certainly impressive to see, and the photos displays in place of the original tour are interesting, just not the same. You will need approx 3-4 hours with drive time

My husband was disappointed that they did not off the hard hat tour when we were there 2 months ago also. But it was still worth it.
