"Honor Bar" ever heard of asking hotel person to remove the items when you check in?????
Recently saw TV promotion for book called "Hotel Detective"--gave a bunch of tips on how to save money when you travel (also some safety hints etc.)
Example-When you are headed for a very commercial area (like NYC) stop at a supermarket on the outskirts of town and get drinks, milk, cereal, sandwich stuff etc. When you check into room ask hotel person to remove items from honor bar to make room for you stuff!!!
Has ANYONE ever heard of this???
or maybe tried to do it????
|
yes, i've heard of people doing it, and it's probably pretty common because i've seen notices before in some hotels stating that there is a charge for removing items from the honor bar.
|
I've asked housekeeping to remove the stuff from the honor bar and they did. They didn't seem surprised by my request, so I guess it's a common request. I tipped the person who came and did it.
|
ooops! i mean there is a charge for removing all items from the honor bar so the guest can use it for his own stuff.

Because I am on Weight Watchers, I always stop at small groceries to keep healthy things in the room. I just move everything out of the honor bar, but tell the maid (leave a note). Why pay someone? Just put items on top or in a drawer.

Very interesting info which I never knew. I will certainly bear that in mind for my next trip.
|
If you put them on top and they are later found to be "missing" you wil be charged.

Some honor bars have elelctronic devices than can charge your room as you remove each item.

Bestt o ask them to remove the items, so you can't be held responsible.

I ALWAYS remove about 1/2 of the stuff in the mini-bar and replace it with healthy snacks and my own bottled water.
In all my travels, I have only seen ONE hotel that charges for removal of items from the mini-bar. I do not typically travel to major vacation destinations like Vegas or Orlando and I stay in 4 Star hotels (sometimes 5).
In one of the last hotels I stayed at I requested that they bring a fridge to the room because there was no mini-bar and I booked a club level room, which typically offers a mini-bar but it was under rennovation.
They did ... at no charge.
Just to fend off the people that want to say I am unreasonable, I'm so NOT! I clean my hotel room every morning before I go to work... bagging my trash, rolling up all my dirty towels and organizing all my stuff in the closet so it's out of the way.

|
I've heard of people who are alcoholics having the minibar emptied.
|
Who do you give the request to empty the bar to - the maids or the front desk? Thanks.
|
The front desk, just to keep records straight.
