Honolulu or Maui first?

Hi There!

We are planning a two week trip to Hawaii, starting around the week of November 20.

This will be our first visit and the plan is to spend a week in Honolulu and a week on Maui...However, we don't know if we should visit Honolulu first or Maui first.

We are a 30 something couple, a 70ish grandmother and a 15 month toddler.

We'd appreciate any advice and/or commentary on this matter.

We'd also appreciated any advice on finding air deals to get from Honolulu to Maui and condo suggestions for Maui.

Thanks for reading!

You don't say where you are from, but I often recommend people (esp from big cities) to land on Oahu first to "detox" before heading out to a neighbor island, where the pace is even slower. I live in Honolulu, and I still get culture shock sometimes when I go interisland! Also another poster recommended stopping in Honolulu before going home, again for the same reason, only backwards. So you could maybe spend a few sightseeing days on Oahu first, a week on Maui, then the remainder (shopping?) on Oahu before heading home.

With only one month before your trip, you can look at sites like:
www.expedia.com
www.hawaii.com

They may have some package deals, but there won't be much available anymore. Both have 800 numbers that you can call where they might fit something in that you can't find on the sites.

Lots of Oahu info including lodging:

This site has over 400 websites including hotels, condos, dining, attractions:

www.visit-oahu.com Click on OVB Yellow Pages

Budget info including some lodging:

You can try these for interisland flights. Some as cheap as $39 + tax one way. But it won't do any good if you can't find suitable lodging.

I don't think it really matters the order. Maybe depending on what kind of plane ticket you find.

Just stay away from the new airlines go.
If you need to book an interisland flight Aloha and Hawaiian are proven carriers. There is a price war going on generated by the new airline. Which is good for us locals but....we got left at the gate and missed a flight to Japan because of go. Never again.....a round trip on Hawaiian is about $80.
