Hubby & I will be visiting our son and his family in Oahu this December. We want to do something fun with the grandgirls ages 3 & 7; any suggestions? Thinking of the zoo and the Polynesian Culture Center but not sure if they're too young for that. Sorry if this goes a second time; net problems.

Sea Life Park

PCC would be nice for a few hoursduring the day, but I wouldn't plan to stay for dinner/show with kids that young.

My choices:

The aquarium
Children's Discovery Center
Bishop Museum
Sandcastles and swimming at Waikiki
Visit the turtles at Laniakea beach Hanauma bay (take a clear bottom bucket or window raft so the little one doesn't have to snorkle)

OOps! Turtles at Lanis and Hanauma Bay are two separate activities

Although the Waikiki aquarium isn't too fancy, we took our kids their a couple of years ago for the 'Aquarium After Dark' tour. It was really fun, the kids got to take a tour with flashlights covered in red film to see the patterns of sea life at night. The staff & presentation was really informative and kid friendly.

They'll love the maze at Dole pineapple plantation,tthere is also a train ride.

There is a free 2 story aquarium in the Galleria in Waikiki. Fun for a walk through.

How about the paddleboats that you can rent along Waikiki?

Fort deRussy Park is a nice grassy area with palm trees, good place to picnic.

Look for free music &/or hula shows, like at the Hula Mound or Royal Hawaiian Shopping Center (are these still on each evening, what with the Lewers St remodel?). They'd be good for kids because you could just stay a few minutes. Also the guy running barefoot down the main boulevard lighting the torches at sunset is pretty cool.
