Honolulu Hotels
 

We will be in Honolulu the latter part of November (post cruise) and are at a loss as to which hotel to book. Can anyone give us their opinions on the Miramar at Waikiki, the Waikiki Parkside, Ohana Reff Towers or Ohana Waikiki Towers. Any information is greatly appreciated.<BR><BR>Many Thanks!!

Not really the cream of the crop. This is generally a slow period so there should be some good deals out there if you call around.<BR>Maybe try Priceline or Hotwire.

I do not know the hotels in your original post. I will tell you that<BR>budget hotels in Waikiki can be more trouble then their savings provide. They attract prostitutes and troubled families. Does not mean that this will be your experience every time but the odds are stronger in budget hotels.<BR><BR>I think Sheraton Waikiki is pretty reasonable. The Ilikai in the main tower only is also nice. How many days are you looking at staying? Up your post closer to California times when you are more likely to get responses from frequent visitors. <BR><BR>If I were choosing I would consider what I have already mentioned or I would splurge on the Sheraton Moana (my fav) or Royal Hawaiian, New Otani down towards Kapiolani Park if you want to be away from the hussle and bussle.<BR><BR>One to avoid where I witnessed police making arrests for prostitution and domestic violence was the Island Colony on Seaside avenue. Not a flea bag and there were cheaper places in town so you do need to be careful.<BR>

You might try doing a search here for the hotels you're interested in, altho that doesn't seem to always retrieve all the previous posts on a topic. <BR><BR>We stayed at the Waikiki Parkside March 2000 (3 adults) and felt it was a good value. Room had 2 queen beds and was smallish but not cramped. Everything was very clean, furnishings new, everything in good repair, pleasant colors. Very small lanai. We enjoyed it. It is a few blocks to the beach, and that is a nice area near de Russy Park. Since we were there it has been bought by Aston. I wouldn't hesitate to go back there. <BR><BR>Do you have to choose between these 4 hotels? As someone else said, at this slow time of year you may find good deals at some more deluxe hotels. A lot depends on how much you want to spend, how close to the beach you want to be, etc. How many nights will you be in Waikiki? That might make a difference in your choice too.

Avoid hotels on Kuhio Avenue. Stick with hotels located on Kalakaua or Ala Moana Blvd. If budget is a concern then you might want to check out some of the following hotels:<BR>Waikiki Beach Marriot Resort<BR>Ilikai is now Marriot(Renaissance). Ala Moana Hotel <BR>Outrigger Waikiki<BR>Outrigger Reef<BR>More upscale Hotels:<BR>Prince Hotel(not Waikiki Prince)<BR>Waikiki Parc (Halekulani's sister Hotel)<BR><BR>I hope these help. We hated The Waikiki Parc Hotel. The room and bathroom were so tiny it was ridiculous and there was sand backing up in the shower drain from someone else's room.

Go with the Terrace. It has a little better location to Central Waikiki. The rooms will be comparable.

I will be there in January, How is the "Aqua Bamboo"-- the pictures look nice, but I do not know if it is a good area? <BR><BR>Thnaks for your help.

Aqua Bamboo is a "boutique" type hotel. It's small and most of the rooms will have zero views. The lobby is chic and updated. It is on semi-seedy Kuhio Avenue.<BR><BR>

To the original poster:<BR><BR>If the "latter part of November" includes Thanksgiving week, then it will be tough to find bargains.<BR><BR>I have stayed in Waikiki 30+ times at many different hotels. Of course, I adore the Royal Hawaiian but that is not for the budget conscious! <BR><BR>I agree with the poster who said avoid Kuhio Avenue- yuck. You might try Priceline, but first do research on biddingfortravel.com.<BR><BR>We have bid on Priceline recently.... $50 for a 3-star in Waikiki West and have gotten the Sheraton Princess Kaulani 3 times. Once we had a fabulous room, twice we had lesser rooms in the older tower. Location is great. My neighbor has made 3 $50 bids on Priceline for 3-star Waikiki West---they were placed at the Princess K once and the Beachcomber (great location) twice. <BR><BR>4-star bid ($75-85) will most likely land you at the Hawaii Prince which is swank but I don't like it's location on the outer fringes of Waikiki. This is near the Ilikai. Not my favorite spot. <BR><BR>My favorite mid-price hotel in Waikiki is the newly renovated Waikiki Beach Marriott Resort. <BR><BR>Do your homework, there may be bargains to be had depending upon the dates. <BR><BR>

Alice,<BR>The Waikiki Terrace is at the entrance to Waikiki. If you don't mind it being a &quot;lower-end&quot; hotel, it might work for you because of its convenient location. You're within walking distance to the beach, great restaurants (Keo's Thai Cuisine, Todai, Nick's Fishmarket) and shopping. Ala Moana Shopping Center is about a 15-20 minute walk from your hotel. Sorry, but I haven't heard of the Waikiki Parkside before.<BR><BR>You could always stay at higher-end hotels like the Hilton Hawaiian or the Hyatt Regency. But, save the money on the hotel and use it to enjoy mai tai's on the beach. Duke's Canoe Club is a great place for that and people-watching. <BR> <BR>November/December is a busy time in Waikiki because of the snowbirds coming here to get away from the cold. Book early! <BR><BR>Hopefully, you'll be here to experience Waikiki's &quot;Brunch on the Beach&quot;. Make sure you sample the local foods from the different restaurant booths and enjoy the Hawaiian music as you relax at Kapiolani Park. They also show movies on a gigantic screen on the beach on some Saturday and Sunday nights.<BR><BR>Have a great time! Post a reply if you have more questions. <BR>

Please be aware that there are many hotels with similar sounding names. You have most recently mentioned the Parkshore (Wyndham franchise)which is on the east end of Waikiki. It is a pretty decent hotel and has just been renovated. It is across the beach and the zoo (you may hear the animals in the evening) You also mentioned the Waikiki Parkside(Aston) and there is the Waikiki Parc(Halekulani).

A friend of mine use to stay at the Miramar and she really liked it. I have stayed at the Ohana Waikiki West, formerly the Outrigger West, on Kuhio. It is only a few blocks from the beach, rooms were clean, staff friendly etc. Hope this helps!

The Pacific Beach Hotel is very nice, moderate price. Across from Waikiki Beach

Alice there are survey sites out there that focus on Hotels. Can't remember the one I used but people write pieces on the hotels they stayed at.<BR><BR>Can anyone help? I thought it was something like opinion.com but that is not working when I try to search.<BR><BR>Also look at fodors, frommers reviews.
