Ksuke, googled Nha Be and still looks pretty sparsely populated, but now that u spell it I know I've heard of it. Does the pronunciation sound like 'baby house' or orphanage in Vnese?

Well I have to say I'm not satisfied w/ the 2 explanations for the singer's umbrella so far. Googled that, too, and was invited to pay $12 for the answer. I nominate Melissa to go up to the guy at the next bon dance and ask.

mari,

"THE BON-ODORI IN HAWAII AND IN JAPAN hand-motions; some use accessories such as fans, hats, parasols, or decorative towels; some have variants with or...."

Looks like they are saying the umbrella is just an accessories. BTW that is the lead in for the article you wanted to buy for $12

Aloha!

HT: yes! But here's what I was after: "The ondo-kudoki (singer) usually holds an umbrella and carries a fan, which may have the text ... " which is not on page 1, which was the freebie teaser.

Melissa, unfortunately ur best shot is to ask the most ancient performer in the yagura, trust me. The nice Okinawan boy might be a good lead-in, tho.

Why is life so not fair? I myself have made the pilgrimage twice this week, first in search of the recommended rabbit dog (wrong day--it's now the Wednesday special, so I had a chicken dog w/ mango salsa instead) and today, rabbit day, only they had closed 20 minutes earlier.

Perhaps if u mentioned my high degree of motivation? Wd u like to trade for Spam?

The next GTG can be themed, "My Honolulu: Mari & Melissa's Culinary Tour of Processed Meats."

My promotions guy, Yong, commented on the Sorabol Blog:
Great choices on the food. Another recommendation is "soon doo boo ji-ge" (soon doo boo: soft tofu, ji-ge: stew/soup = spicy soft tofu soup/stew served in a hot pot.
Oh, and try soju: Korean version of sake. Lastly, take a Korean with you next time you go, or to any Korean restaurant for that matter and they'll give you more food.

I have to agree, whenever we ordered lunch from Choi's on King Street, we would always send this guy Hyun to pick it up. "Mama Choi" would give him extras, like a whole container of zucchini jun or stuff like that.

It's a Japanese show. It's called "Soko ga Shiritai" and should be listed in the TV Week.

7 pm every weekday on KIKU channel 9. Not a restaurant show, or even a travel show. Literally means "That's What I Want to Know."

A trio of oddly matched people, or a singular personality, start off on a quest that cd be for the most mundane thing, and follow leads, end up in interesting places, meet lots of characters, eat well. Sometimes they take bus trips to onsen, sometimes they hunt down local specialties.

"Sushi! Donburi! Ramen!" is a restaurant show, don't know if it's still on.

Thanks for posting the bakeries link. I'm already on a quest for garlic Spam musubi; now I have to try Agnes' malasadas! Imua!

Hi Mari!

Let us know how the musubi works out! Not to beat a sweet malasada to death but but but, windward mall still has the Lenard's mobile a few times a week. This is what the bus drivers tell me anyway.

Agnes in Kailua is 30 years old. Nice little breakfast bakery spot with a coffee and tables if you are on vacation. Did not see full breakfast options but absolutely a ton of tempting treats. Pies to order looked pretty good too.

Agnes' pies to order are killer! KILLER! Cranberry apple upside down?! Only thing, they need to be advance-ordered, and they don't sell by the slice.

I must admit I am partial to Agnes in Kailua, they have great pastries of all kinds (you gotta try the "Coconut Grove Bar")and pies OMG!! there are a few tables and you can sit and enjoy coffee and a treat.

Man, I was wondering if anyone saw that! We'll be promoting it next Wednesday on KITV and then I'll appear on KHNL next Friday.
