Just another interesting article about Japanese style temples in Hawaii. If anyone is interested.

MelissaHI Aug 14th, 2007 05:57 PM

Interesting that they don't mention that this temple broke away from the sect! The rebels!

lcuy Aug 14th, 2007 06:37 PM

Interesting articles, sarah. Thanks!

Now did anyone fugure out why the singer carries an umbrella? My husband says it is used to keep all the groupies away, but I think he was just embarrassed that I know more about Japanese temples than him. I have it from a gopod source that he got thrown out of Japanese school in second or third grade!

Sarah Aug 14th, 2007 06:55 PM

lcuy are you talking about the singing in the rain guy? Gene Kelly? Only other umbrella guy that comes to mind is on the cover of "rain", Akira Kurasoura film? Don't think he was singing.

K got a bite on temples. Here are two more links on Hawaii Temples

Mels, she thinks we look like pirates. Oh the indignity!

Lcuy, LOL! He beats off the groupies with an umbrella! I think it does have something to so with protection, but of a more spiritual nature perhaps? Your husband's in good company. I got kicked out of Catholic school!

Sarah, Martin noticed that the singer in the tower always carried an umbrella as he was singing and he wanted to know why. Thanks for all the research you're doing! Interesting.

hawaiiantraveler Aug 14th, 2007 10:00 PM

lcuy,

linda said he carried an umbrella cause he was not a Portagee. Am I going to have to explain? ;)

Aloha!

MelissaHI Aug 15th, 2007 11:48 AM

HT, that's the most portagee explanation of all!!
;)
