Honolulu fun ?
Hi there,

I am thinking of going to Hawaii for 8 days in January for my first time.

I like more "city style" vacations than sitting around a beach or resort.

Are there enough fine restaurants, arts, and shopping to stay busy for the week?

What about the beaches near Honolulu?

Has anyone stayed at the W in Honolulu? is it close to everything and near a nice beach?

Also, I would hope to take 2 days to see some unspoiled beauty on the Island.

Is this all possible?

Thanks

Most people who stay at the "W" are trying to avoid the hustle bustle of central Waikiki which is about 10-15 minute walk away. The "W" is sedate and near a good beach.

I prefer to be near the action when I visit Waikiki as I also like city vacations.

Yes, there is PLEANT to do in 8 days on Oahu, 2 days plenty of time to explore the further reaches of Honolulu.

Yes, you could stay for weeks. W is slightly away from the main cluster of hotels/beaches/bus stops. Servicable, but if you want easy access to bus trips to remote beaches, mountains, museums, etc try almost any other Waikiki hotel.

I love the Honolulu W! It isn't too far of a walk - plus it houses a very fine restaurant and happening club (Friday nights best for the club). Try to get an oceanview room if possible. There are tons of great restaurants and shopping on Oahu, as well a numerous museums, art galleries, etc.

There is a small nice beach right out back of W. Additionally, you can walk towards Waikiki and find very nice beaches. Outside of Honolulu the island has loads of great beaches - if you are renting a car try to make it over to Kailua beach (reef protected so good swimming), or out to the North Shore (Waimea Bay) to watch the giant waves.
