Honolulu Car Rental Advice

We will be staying at the radisson waikiki in december for 1 week. We want to rent a car for one day and drive up to the north part of the island. Should we rent before we leave or just rent when we get there.
Thanks, vic.

December is busy so I would reserve something.

December 11 is the Honolulu Marathon. So a couple days before and after that you might have a problem renting a car if you wait until you get too Oahu. Other than that it shouldn't be much of a problem until right before Christmas through the New Year.

You ought to think about renting a car for the entire time or at least for several days. There are several car rental places in Waikiki that have cars on site (most require shuttles to their airport lots).

Busses and trolleys will get you around, but they are slow.

There is a lot of things to do on the island away from Honolulu/Waikiki.

If you don't reserve you can actually rent cars from private places in Waikiki though those cars arn't your 2005 models.

What is the harm in reserving something ahead of time? You can always cancel it without penalty.
