Honolulu Airport - Transferring from International to Domestic Terminal

On account of an unexpected flight time change, I will now have only 1 hour 20 minutes to make my connection from Honolulu to Kona on Hawaiian Airlines. I will be arriving in Honolulu on Air Canada. The two tickets were bought separately. Assuming that there are no delays, does that give me enough time to transfer to the domestic terminal, and if so what is the best way to travel between the two terminals?

The answer depends on the status of any checked luggage.

If you only have carry-ons, you will have ample time. The Wiki-Wiki shuttle will take you from one terminal to the other. In my experience I have not had to go through security again, but I have not used two different carriers.

If you have checked luggage, it depends on whether on not you can check it all the way through. I would call Air Canada ans ask. If you have to claim it from Air Canada in HNL and then check it back in on HA, time will be tight as you will need to go to the HA counter (always slow, IMO) and then through the security check-in lines.

I would not worry too much. HA has flights about every hour to half hour, depending on the time of day. They will get you on the next available.

Thank you both for your comments. Last night I managed to get in touch with Air Canada. I understand that they do have a Baggage Agreement with Hawaiian and that we should be able to get the bags tagged to Kona. That makes us a bit more comfortable.
