My husband and I went to Vegas for a weekend in December last year for what we refer to as our yearly "hot date" trip (meaning, no 4-year-old cutie pie tagging along). Anyway, we are the type of people who like to experience all kind of places. Even if we think a city or country is not our thing, we still want to see/experience it. We stayed at the Bellagio and the strip was everything we thought it would be: over the top and sooooo not us (we don't gamble, we don't like crowds and over the top places). We still enjoyed ourselves (there are some great restaurants in Vegas and we saw a fantastic Cirque du Soleil show) but we were ready to go home by the end of that weekend! It's sort of a "been there, done that, no interest in doing it again" type of thing for us. There's so little time and just too many other places in the U.S. and in the world that we want to visit. Hate is a strong word but everyone is entitled to their opinion. And travel talk forums would be SOOOOOOO boring if we all liked the same things.

No honking here! My husband and I have traveled quite a bit (India and Jamaica so far this year, and Spain next month), and we still enjoy Vegas about once a year. We go during the week toward the end of the year to burn my remaining personal days, so we get great rates at the hotels. We like to play blackjack, eat at the great restaurants, and on our last trip we rented a car and went hiking in Valley of Fire, which was amazing. I agree with the others who have said that it gets to be too much after three or four days, but in a small dose it's great for us.

I was in Vegas for the first time a few weeks ago with my wife and young child, and we enjoyed it.

What really surprised me and no one ever seems to mention it, is the view from the plane when your coming in to land, I found it to be breathtaking scenery.

We stayed at the JW Marriott resort in Summerlin and that was great. I had a car rental and travelled to the strip and parked in one of the free car parks, and walked around.

I did see some mayhem as I went to the Steakhouse at Circus Circus as I've never seem so many people queuing to check in, must have been around 250

As mentioned by other posters I took the drive out to the Grand Canyon (photos & video can never do it justice) & Sedona (uniquely beautiful).

In addition we shopped till we dropped, so cheap compared with Europe and even the drive to Primm I found picturesque.

We'll definately be back

Again, the "Hate" thing was just a play on words. Ya know, bumper stickers that say "Honk if you LOVE Jesus" ( Well, anyway, those people usually forget about the bumper sticker and when you honk at them some of them will flip you off ;-) ) I started the thread to honestly hear these remarks. I should have rented a car and gone hiking. I'm more of a North Face girl than Hermes and I get claustrophobic in crowds.
