Honeymooning in California

Dear all,

We are Honeymooning in California. We want to spend the first 4 days in a relaxing and charming hotel, close to the beach.

Any advice about towns/cities and specific hotels/inns/b&bs will be much appreciated !!!

Thanks !!!

Are you flying in anywhere specific? Is this northern, central or southern CA? Budget? Time of year?

Hi Suzie,

Thanks for your quick reply !!!

The honeymoon is starting on August 23rd. We prefer southern or central california. We have not decided where to fly yet. We are flying from London, so we could fly to LA, San Diego or maybe Santa Barbara. We are open to suggestions !!! We will get a car.

About budget, for the first 4 nights about $300 to $400 a nights (We will go for cheaper after the first four nights)

Thanks !!!!

For southern calif--a few ideas would be shutters in santa monica (LA), right on the beach--that might strethc your beduget a bit above $400 per night. La VAlencia in la Jolla (San Diego) or the Coronado Hotel (on Coronado Island-SAn Diego) are also great. La V is not actually on the beach.

Hi-If you get to central California-I'd suggest the town of Carmel - very charming and on the ocean. Plenty of places to stay.

We stayed at the Grandview Inn in Pacific Grove which is outside of Monterey/Carmel. I think it would be a great place to start a honeymoon. You also got some great suggestions in Santa Monica and San Diego if you want a little warmer weather.

Carmel is an excellent suggestion. Many great places to stay there. We like La Playa where we stayed last May, it is walking distance to the ocean. :)

If you don't mind a short drive, the Carmel Highland's area is fantastic. The Highland's Inn and the Tickle Pink Inn are right next door. We have stayed at both places and they are both very, very nice. Don't miss Point Lobos State Reserve here! ***kim*** ((#))

I don't know anything about Central California but down south, it doesn't get any better than the Hotel Del Coronado.

Another vote for the Hotel Del Coronado on Coronado Island (across from San Diego). Check out the old movie "Some Like It Hot" with Marilyn Monroe...part of it was filmed at the hotel. The beach there is undeveloped and gorgeous.

A third vote for the Hotel Del Coronado. We have always enjoyed our stays there, and the beach is great.

The beach & waves below your balcony. Very romantic!

Congrat's on your wedding!
I would do San Diego because the weather will be perfect and the water temp for the ocean will be just right..it will be busy because it is still summer and before Labor Day..(1st week of Sept)
Here is what I would choose with the budget that you have which is very generous but will be more because of the high season:
Coronado:
hoteldel.com
loewshotels.com
La Jolla:
thegrandecolonial.com
lavalencia.com
lodgetorreypines.com
hotellajolla.com
ljbtc.com
estancialajolla.com
San Diego/Mission Bay:
paradisepoint.com
Del Mar:
laubergedelmar.com
Carlsbad:
fourseasons.com Aviara
Hotels a little North about an hour from SD.
Dana Point:
stregismonarchbeach.com
Laguna Niguel:
ritzcarlton.com
Avalon/Catalina Island:
catalinaexpress.com
catalina.com/mtada

Hope this helps for you and I would try Expedia.com or direct with the hotel... Have a wonderful time enjoying our beautiful coast and the water will be gorgeous and clean and we have great restaurants too!
You are going to have one heck of a honeymoon!
Best to you and your fiance.

You can't fly into San Francisco or San Jose?

The obvious honeymoon destination is Carmel. The Highlands Inn or Tickle Pink if you can afford them. Hands down.

Do some googling.
