Honeymooners need HELP!!!

Looking to go to Hawaii for our honeymoon in June....can't decide on which Islands to go to....we have two weeks and are looking to go to two islands.......any advice would be greatly apreciated:)

You'll get a million differences of opnion on this, and the answer really depends on what you're looking for. We went on our honeymoon and went to Maui and Kauai and loved them both. Maui's a bit more built up and more going on, Kauai a bit quieter--both are beautiful. Many people like Oahu so they can see Pearl Harbor, Diamondhead, etc. I would have liked to see the Big Island, but decided to limit it to 2. You really can't go wrong.

Hey girl,

I completely agree with everything almesq said. My wife and I did our honeymoon a year ago on Maui and Kauai and wouldn't have changed a thing. We weren't disappointed in the least.

The one thing I and most people will say is if seeing an active volcano is tops on your list of things to do, then go to the Big Island. If we had more time (we had the same 2 weeks as you) we would have, but like yourselves wanted to stick to only 2 islands.

Enjoy!

We are honeymooners, too! We just booked our trip to Kauai and Maui next month after begging for advise from the wonderful Fodorites! Just book early!

My wife and I went to Kauai and Maui on our honeymoon in Dec 2002. I really do not think you can go wrong with any of the islands, but we really enjoyed those two. Kauai is a much calmer island than the others and we enjoyed this time relaxing after the stress of the wedding.

I think Kauai and Maui is a nice combo for a honeymoon. I'd suggest adding a couple days in Oahu if you are landing there first before connecting to Kauai or Maui. You can see a lot in two days on Oahu.

Did our honeymoon on Kauai 4 years ago and stayed in Poipu. WEnt back the next year and stayed on the north side in Princeville. Kauai is great- If I had to pick 2, I would pick Maui and Kauai.

The North shore of Kauai and anywhere on Maui are my favorite places.

For my honeymoon in October on Maui, I want a great beach and nice weather. I'm afraid to take a chance on the eroding beaches of Kaanapali and the iffy weather at Kapaula Bay.

Is there enough to do to split our 10 days between the 4S and Fairmont Kea Lani-both in Wailea?

Congratulations on your marriage. We have been to Hawaii several times. My husband loves Oahu, but it is just another city to many people. If you are looking to relax and get away from people and the town you left behind, go Kauai and then for awesome hiking and geology to the Big Island. Volcanoes park is fabulous and if you are an adventuress type I recommend the hike out to the lava flow. The following link to a lodge has great info about the hiking with live web cam pictures. The actual lodge may not be what you are looking for on a honeymoon, but the owenr recommends some other places in the Hilo Area and has links.

Kona on the other side of the Big Island provides a contrast to the homespun low key Hilo area. Black sand beaches and amazing old lava flows can be seen as you drive along the coastal highway. Kona offers nightlife and fine dining with resorts and condos.

Good luck!

boy75--
We stayed at the Four Seasons in Maui and the Hyatt in Kauai and loved both. The FS was luxurious and the service and pampering were truly amazing. The Grand Wailea, next door to the FS, is also supposed to be nice, but a bit too over the top and crowded for a honeymoon IMO, especially during the summer vacation.
Hyatt was also great, with a great pool, water slide, man-made saltwater lagoon. Excellent choice of restaurants as well. I highly recommend both hotels.

We are also honeymooning on Maui and Kaua'i for two weeks, in July.

Happy Planning

Wow, Hawaii and honeymoons just fit perfectly! My husband and I also went to Maui and Kauai for our honeymoon in 2000. We started in Maui and stayed in Wailea and LOVED it. Very quiet, great snorkling and low cost yummy local food. Then moved to Lahina and liked the choice of food etc.
Kauai is quiet but has lots of active things to do. We have gone back to Kauai four times since 2000 and love it every time. We have a few favorite active things to do: example- hike to rope swing, cliff jump, kayak to fern grotto and swim under a beautiful waterfall, snorkel with sea turtles at our favorite beach...quiet but not dull.
Have a wonderful time!!! and CONGRATULATIONS!
