Honeymoon in NYC

Sorry...I will be flying from Cincinnati, OH. I am looking for a hotel in Mid Manhattan near Central Park and in the middle of everything. I'm looking for a middle grade hotel..nothing too fancy but nothing really sleezy. I'd like to spend no more than $100-120 per night. Oh, don't worry about the plane ticket price because I can find it myself.
Thanks!
Thanks!

I think you're going to run into some trouble finding anything that is decent for that type of rate. My only suggestion might be to try getting a rate via priceline.com. If that doesn't work, then consider someplace else for the honeymoon. No one wants to remember their honeymoon as staying in a run down motel with saggy mattresses and cramped space.

I would think so, try www.hotels.com, www.priceline.com both list hotels in the city that would fit the bill.
The Grand Hyatt Regency has some great deals, is a beautiful hotel and is right in the heart of the city, on 42nd St and Lexington Ave. From there you can walk to the Theatre district, 5th Ave and shopping on 34th St. Lots of good restaurants in the area.
Have a great time while you are here and congratulations.

Thanks for the help! I found several hotels on www.newyorkhotels.net for around $120. Milford Plaza is $115.98 through that website. Is that a nice hotel? It is located on 45th Street

No, the Milford Plaza is NOT a nice hotel and I would suggest you steer clear of it. While July tends to be a bit cheaper than other months, a budget of $100-120 a night doesn't get you much in NYC, unless you use a discount website like priceline. In that case, you'll have to risk waiting until the last minute to see what they have available.
What other choices did you get?

Honeymooner, maybe we are setting your standards too high. Do you know of a nice hotel in downtown Cincinnati that you would like to stay in for about $60 a night? If so, then you could probably find a similar one in New York for double that ($120 plus taxes making it about $140), but even then only if you got a special rate for it. Expect hotels to be at least double, closer to triple for what you'd pay in the Queen City.

Hi! If you don't want to wait and chance it with Priceline, I suggest you check out quickbook.com. For I plugged in some July dates (incl. a weekend) and here is what I found: Belvedere $130, Fitzpatrick $149, Salisbury $139, Bentley $115, Best Western President $109 for a queen $99 for a double. Go to quickbook.com and see what appeals to you; click on the name of the hotel for more info, compare location and amenities and then post back here if you are considering anything specific. There really isn't any reason you can't find a clean, safe, hotel in NYC in (or slightly above) your price range. Good luck!

Thanks to those of you who honestly tried to help me with finding a hotel within my price range. I'm surprised that Milford Plaza is bad. It is a 3 star hotel and looks great on the website. Oh well...here are other hotels that I found:
Comfort in Manhattan- $129
Grand Union Hotel- $109
Hotel Wolcott- $119
Arlington- $95
Habitat- $99
Ramada New Yorker- $109
Hotel Belleclaire- $89
Manhattan Broadway- $79
I'd greatly appreciate any other suggestions or comments on the above. Thanks!

Honeymooner -- of the hotels that Dan mentioned, I am familiar with two of them. The Fitzpatrick I can definitely recommend. They have two locations -- one on Third Ave (I think) near Bloomingdale's and one near Grand Central. Both are very nice, smaller hotels. Good service, nice rooms. The one near Grand Central even has a decent pub, serves Irish tea and has a real Irish breakfast available. We put up our out-of-town wedding guests there for our Sept. 2000 wedding. We stayed there, too. See if you can get upgraded to the jr suite when you arrive.
The Bentley is perfectly fine. The lobby is nice and the room I saw was nice, well-furnished and not tiny. The only downside is location -- it is a little far from most tourist destinations and is located at a busy intersection near the FDR Drive. I would go with the Fitzpatrick over the Bentley, but that's just me.

DO NOT TAKE $1500 IN SPENDING MONEY!! AAGGHHH! Do not carry this amount of cash on you (if you do, it goes without saying that you need to keep this on your person at all times i.e. hidden money belt, etc.) I am not saying this as a slam to NYC, this would be the case in any larger city. Take your credit card/ATM card and carry your wallet in your front pants pocket. Know the phone number to call if you should loose your credit card so you will not be responsible if a theif goes on a spending spree. Ok, enough of that . . how are you doing with the hotel?

Just a few comments from people who have stayed at the Milford Plaza (I'm doing this from memory, but pretty sure I've heard all of these about the place):
mold in the bathroom
bare lightbulb with no lamp shade for a fixture
dirty sheets
holes in the bedspread and drapery
non-vacummed floor
rude and unhelpful staff
broken door locks
rusty bathroom fixtures
big wet stains on the carpets
finding a used condom under the bed
broken down beds
getting a twin bedded room when promised a king
very smoky non-smoking rooms
Enter Milford Plaza in the search function and you will find all these comments and many, many more, including numerous testimonies from people who prepaid reservations there and left after or even before one night, willing to lose their money rather than stay there.

No, No, No - NOT the Milford! You'll be in divorce court before your trip is over. I realize that you are trying to work with a reasonable budget - but this is NO PLACE for a honeymoon - it's not even clean! Try the Lucerne, Fitzpatrick, or even the BW President for a reasonably priced, well located, and CLEAN property. Good luck & keep us posted.

You should use www.quikbook.com, as another poster suggested. I just did a quick check, and 2 hotels that are good come up for: $125/nt @ Excelsior Hotel, and $129/nt @ The Roosevelt.
