Honeymoon in Maui- Sept '09. Need suggestions!
Looking for tips on places to stay, activities and special interest things not to be missed. Will be going on honeymoom for 10 nights.
Suggestions for nice, romantic, stay. would like to do some sightseeing abd some spa stuff, but mostly beach and relaxation. budget is up to $5-6k. Thanks!! |
Grand Wailea Resort in Makena would be my choice..

We like Kaanapali Beach and Sheraton is the nicest hotel there. Good rates available through Starwood ($300/nt range)

IMHO, BoulderCO's opinion of the Sheraton Kaanapali is a little "inflated". The Sheraton is in a nice location, and it has pleasant grounds, but the hotel itself is a plain old Sheraton. The beach is also very busy because it's at Black Rock (excellent snorkeling right off the beach). Depends what you're looking for -- there are more luxurious hotels on Kaanapali Beach (although none of them as luxury-end as some of those at Wailea).

I agreee with sf7307 that there are more luxurious hotels than the Sheraton but tsaluja did say their budget is $5-6K for 10 days. Those high end hotels will eat their entire budget. I assumed that their room budget was no more than about $3 to $3.5K of their total budget. That pretty much eliminates the more luxurious places.

I assumed the budget was for accomodations/meals. Budgeting $500 a day would mean a $375 a night hotel + tax + meals + rental car.
That eliminates the 4 Seasons, and probably the Grand Wailea. |
Congrats! Check out lahaina inn if you dont mind not having a t.v and its close to everything! In lahaina town activities are everywhere. We recommend molokini for snorkeling, surfing with outrageous surf school and dont miss a luau!
|
And I assumed the budget was just for lodging!! Re-reading, though, you all may be right. I wonder what they can get these days (given the economy) for that price (I just noticed, for example, that the Outrigger Waikiki has an internet price of $159 a night -- anything like that in Maui)?

Lahaina? No. Too noisy.
It looks as thought The Big Island resorts are offering some good discounts on fall reservations. You might be able to swing a package with the Hapuna Beach Prince Hotel. That would be much better than noisy, hot Lahaina. |
Just plugged into Expedia for 10 nights leaving from LAX to OGG/Maui with flight/hotel/car and it came up for the Grand Wailea with a King Oceanfront room at $2157 per person!
What a great Aloha deal and a wonderful place to spend for your honeymoon! expedia.com |
Forgot to add that was 9/12-9/22/09.

We loved the Wailea area, very pretty and romantic. Our favorite activities were the Old Lahaina Luau, snorkel trip to Molokini with Trilogy, whale watching with the Pacific Whale Foundation, the road to Hana, and the sunrise at Haleakala. We stayed at the Renaissance, but I understand it's not there anymore. Just relaxing on the beach was pretty great too.

We were on Maui in May '08 for 10 days and we stayed at the Hyatt on Kaanapali and we loved it. The hotel has a spa and a gym and several restaurants. We got the hotel rate for oceanview room including breakfast (great buffet breakfast at Sonz) and were upgraded to oceanfront upon arrival. You have to walk a little bit to get to the main beach area because the beach directly in front of the hotel is very small and not overly usable, but the walk isn't that long and there is a nice path that runs along the length of the beach.
We took the Trilogy trip to Lanai and had a great day. We definitely recommend the company. We also did some kayaking and ziplining, and we hiked into the crater of Haleakala (never managed to wake up early enough to see the sunrise). We made the trip to Hana and were a bit disappointed, but it was a pretty drive. You can click on my name and my trip report should come up, just scroll down to May or June of last year. Enjoy your trip! |
