Honeymoon in Maui

My fiance and I are planning on getting married in September of this year. We are choosing a hotel/resort to stay at but realize we must stay within a budget. We are considering the Kaanapali Beach Hotel and would like to have any comments about this hotel or others in the Kaanapali area or Wailea. We are looking for the best value for the money and want a ocean view that does not cheat you. Does anyone have any reccommendations or comments on this or other hotels such as the Sheraton, Keal Lani, Hyatt Regency, or Maui Marriott? Thanks.

We stayed at the Maui Marriott and loved it. We also stayed at the Royal Lahiana and had a cabin on the ocean . It was a great room.

If you are going on your honeymoon, stay in either Kaanapali or Kapalua. We stayed at the Hyatt (LOVED it!) for our honeymoon two years ago, and just got back from our second trip to Hawaii (Big Island and Maui). We thought we'd do something different this trip and decided to stay in either Kapalua or Wailea this time. We chose Wailea and the Kea Lani and were EXTREMELY disappointed (we even left for home a few days early ). The Kea Lani hotel is nice and does have a great beach for swimming when the surf in not high, but we had other "problems" with the hotel. Next time we go we are going to stay at the Ritz in Kapalua (call direct or use a travel agent - they have excellent deals - free night free breakfast buffet) or back to the Hyatt (packages with room upgrades, free braekfast - BTW Regency Club is worth the $$ for the view and service). The beach at the Hyatt isn't great (not as nice as the Kea Lani), but the beaches in Kapalua are reported to be a few of the best on the island. If you hear that the beach is a long walk from the Ritz, it is semi-far (a few minutes walk), but reportedly worth it. Otherwise the other beach in front of the Kapalua Bay hotel is supposed to be the best on the island. The Ritz was gorgeous, set back from the water. My wife and I love being right on the water with an Ocean View, but this hotel seemed worth it even though it is set back. I would DEFINITELY recommend West Maui over Wailea/Kihei area. No comparison. For your honeymoon you want to feel like you are on a tropical island, and West Maui (Kaanapali/Kapalua) did that. The drive alone along the coast to the resorts in West Maui is breathtaking. Kihei reminded me of the New Jersey shore.

My husband and I stayed at Kea Lani in Wailea for our honeymoon five years ago. We loved the hotel because all the rooms were spacious suites. The suites really could accomodate two couples. The rooms had a lot of luxurious features like a TV/VCR, HUGE bathrooms with Neutrogena bath products, a bar and private balcony. I'm surprised by the negative comments about the hotel. We thought the staff was friendly. Wonder if their service has declined since we've been there. If you like an open, airy accomodation, I think you'll like this hotel. Wailea is beautiful because it has all the luxurious resorts. I hated Kaanapali because it was too commercialized...too many high rise hotels and too many people.

We stayed at the Hyatt in Kauai when we got engaged 2 years ago. It was amazing! I have been to numerous hotels on Kauai and Maui and it was by far the most gorgeous. Has a very Hawaiian flavor despite being a large chain hotel. Great service. The pools are amazing. The daily brunches are the best we have ever had. The only down side: no good snorkeling on the beach nearby. The weather in Poipu is probably the least rainy though so you can feel confident going at any time. But don't expect it to be cheap. However, we did a "5th night free" pack which made up for the cost. We can't wait to go back

Jeff,

First of all congratulations!! My husband and I stayed at the Hyatt last September for our honeymoon. We had also spent a week at the Hyatt in Kauai. The Hyatt is a real grand hotel with beautiful grounds, penguins, parrots, I believe 3 restaurants and lots of other amenities. I had written a note to the manager notifying him that we would be spending our honeymoon there and we got upgraded to the Regency Club. This included continental breakfast, afternoon snacks, and evening snacks and drinks. The concierge at the Regency Club is great they are willing to do anything to make your stay comfortable. I highly recommend the Hyatt also if you do not stay at the Hyatt be sure to visit their restaurant called Swan Court. It is very romantic!
