Amy,
Kauai is a great spot for a honeymoon. The weather will be balmy and sunny with just a few short showers. The island has everything a couple might need from helicopter rides, hiking and surfing to a clothes optional beach. There are many good places to eat, ranging from the romantic Duke's Canoe Club to funky Bubba's Burgers. Shopping ranges from local stores such as Hilo Hatties to K-Mart, Wal-Mart, Sears and Borders. Only the night life is sub-par and most honeymooners find ways to compensate. :)

There is a lot more to do on Maui than on Kauai. So if you can only get to one island, then Maui should be your first choice. If you can afford one of the luxury hotels on Kaanapali Beach, then stay there: Hyatt or Sheraton are the best, Marriott and Westin slightly less expensive. Kaanapali is the best place to stay because the most activities and restaurants and walking distance from hotels and shopping and activities.
LOTS more info about Maui sights, activities, hotels, condos, restaurants, etc, is in the 30-page paper that you can read or print from this web site:
http://members.aol.com/Derm1/index.html

Jon
Well, how long will you be staying? If two weeks, or close there to I would land in Waikiki and stay for 2 nights, fly them to Maui and then to Kauai. I have been to Hawaii 3 times and am fervent when I plan my trips-I research them to the enth. Feel free to email me direct with more specific questions, but here are some basics. In Maui, look into the Wailea area for hotels. I am sorry, I do not agree with Kanapaali as being better. Wailea is drier, classier, ritzier looking. Read Fieldings, or Gault Milan's travel ratings on the following hotels, Four Seasons or the Kea Lani. I really don't know your budget, let me know and I can help you more. At Kauai, stay at the Hyatt on the south shore( or the new Sheraton) or the Princeville on the north shore(scenery to die for) I can tell you how to get a Sheraton card to save on hotel rates and an Entertainment book to save on interisland flights. We always go in the summer and it is just fine. Annemarie
