Honeymoon in Hawaii

We are going on a two week honeymoon to Hawaii in April and need recommendations about where to go? We are open to anything!!!!

I would suggest Maui, especially the Kapalua, Kannapali, or Napili areas.
Because you're going for two weeks (lucky, lucky you) I would recommend a week on Maui and a week on another island.

Funny you should ask this question. My wife and I just returned from spending 8 days on the north shore of Kauai and when it was over, I said to her that, knowing what I know now, that's where I'd have picked to honeymoon. It's my definition of paradise. Just breathtaking. Gorgeous green mountains, beautiful ocean views, one beach more amazing than the next, blooming flowers, trees and shrubs everywhere, and friendly people. Plus there's lots of things to do in addition to hitting the beaches -- hiking, kayaking and sightseeing. Now there isn't much nite life if that's important. But the north shore just oozes romance and tranquility. All that said, April is the tale end of Kauai's wet season. The Hawaiian experts on this board can tell more about that if you mention when in April you'd be there and they can also tell you more about the water temperature if swimming and snorkeling appeal to you. I'd make Kauai one spot and perhaps Maui the other. I'd skip Oahu. Never been to the BI.

One week on Oahu for the many things to see & do.

One week on Big Island, Kauai or Maui.

Lots of info

We just got back from 2 weeks on the north shore of Kauai and it might as well have been a honeymoon! It was beautiful, relaxing, romantic and fun. We could easily have stayed another 2 weeks--we didn't have time to do half the things we wanted to do. We hiked, snorkeled, swam, ziplined, and took a Na Pali cruise. I agree there isn't a lot of nightlife, but we weren't looking for that. In terms of natural beauty and laid-back island feel, I think Kauai is paradise.

In April I would definitely go to Maui. One week at the Ho'oilo House near Lahaina and the other at Hotel Hana-Maui in Hana or Hamoa Bay Bungalows in Hana. Dividing it up like this will give you a good mix of seclusion (Hana) as well as things to do (Lahaina and Wailea), like shopping and great restaurants. Must go to Kaanapali beach not far from Lahaina if you decide on Maui. Snorkeling at Black Rock there is fantastic. Have fun!

To the folks who just returned from Kauai...Where did you stay? We are planning a trip for Jan, and still looking for lodging. Thanks

dcd Oct 4th, 2006 02:55 PM

As much as we loved our charming, stand alone, 2 story house (2 BR/2.5 bath) named Hale Maluhia in the Hanalei Bay Villas (www.kauaivilla.com), I'm not sure I'd recommend staying on the north shore in Jan when it's supposed to be pretty rainy. Conventional wisdom is to stay on the southern coast during that time of year. Dave

Dave,
Thank you. Yes we are planning on staying south mostly, but hope to be in the north for a night or 2.
Had a place on secret beach but too much $$$, so still looking.

2 weeks in Hawaii should be split up especially on a h'moon IMHO.

If it rains on Kauai, wouldn't it just be terrible to be stuck in a hotel room on your h'moon with ahem nothing to do? ;;)

Kal,

Whaddya mean, IF it rains? :-d

I went on my 2nd Honeymoon, 10 years ago. 1 week on Maui (Lahaina), and 1 week on Kauai (South area/ Kalaheo near Koloa). It was great and I reccommend that 2 island combo.

jamaltay Oct 4th, 2006 06:57 PM

I agree with Kal. The trip should be split up. Example: Wife goes to Maui, Husband goes to Kauai.

LOL Jamaltay. Good one! ;-)

We are going on our honeymoon next May and are also looking at Hawaii. I see that Kauai and Maui are the popular ones, but we will only have 1 week so will probably just choose one. We definately want to swim with the dolphins...is either place better for that?

iamq Oct 5th, 2006 08:30 AM

purplej,

You might want to start a new thread for your question as you will certainly get more information that way.

We stayed here: http://www.diversvacationrentals.com/haena.htm

It is about a mile south of Tunnels Beach on a rural-residential road 4 houses from the ocean. Very comfortable and pleasant and the owners are very friendly. It is not luxurious, but for the price we were very happy with it.

8 years ago, my wife and I spent our 8 day honeymoon on Lanai. It was so calming and felt like we had the island to ourselves. The Manele Bay Resort (Four Seasons) is fantastic. You can take a ferry over to Lahaina, so maybe spend the first week on Lanai and the final week on Maui. Have fun!
