Honeymoon Ideas?
My fiance and I are looking for honeymoon ideas. We have a budget of around $1,000 and although we like to see and do stuff aren't thrill seekers either. We want a honeymoon to relax, but also to be able to go out and do some activities. Any ideas?

Paris2013 Oct 19th, 2011 06:16 PM

And we do want to stay within the States.

happytrailstoyou Oct 19th, 2011 06:17 PM

Does the $1,000 include transportation?
If so, from where will you depart.
How many nights do you plan for your honeymoon?

LoveItaly Oct 19th, 2011 06:20 PM

Hello Paris, congratulations on your upcoming wedding.

About your honeymoon, where are you now located and does your $1,000.00 include travel expense such as airfare, car trip? And what type of activities do you two enjoy? What is your budget for nightly lodging and what type of lodging plus how much and what type of meals are of interest to you etc.

More information is needed in order for anyone to offer some advice. Best regards.

Paris2013 Oct 19th, 2011 06:27 PM

We are looking at about 4-5 nights. The grand includes everything. We are departing from NE Indiana.

What time of year??

happytrailstoyou Oct 19th, 2011 07:49 PM

If you are into country music and you are driving, Nashville would be an option.

for cheapo cruises... fly/drive to

Cruise to Carib Mexico from there might work

If you are talking about $500 each that is cutting it close

Will be pretty tough to do...especially another country.

Debit just read her first postwe are all trying to help here.

It is very unusual for an OP to post twice so chillax

If you cannot do anything but be critical of other posters

trying to help why post in the first place?

Paris good luck to you sorry for the clueless nattering

nabobs of negativity that troll here cometimes.

I am sure you will recieve many other helpful suggestions.

happytrailstoyou Oct 20th, 2011 07:17 AM

Do you ever really read to OP??

Ouch! Step back to soften the blow.

DebitNM Oct 20th, 2011 07:48 AM

I actually posted a very relevant remark instead of always posting the same solutions to all queries as some posters do, without paying attention to the OP's requests. And for the record, many times OP's come back to indeed clarify and add additional details that will enable us to give useful suggestions. So, reading the entire thread is a good idea, not just the OP.

I am guessing this is someone who hasn't traveled a lot and isn't familiar with with how most mass travel options work. I think they were looking for some specific ideas rather than blanket links.

charnees Oct 20th, 2011 09:35 AM

Also, what time of year will you be traveling? Makes a difference where you could go.

If you want to go to CA in the summer, try San Francisco, or fly into Reno, rent a car, and drive to Lake Tahoe.

emalloy Oct 20th, 2011 10:04 AM

Fly to Vegas - get a cheap flight, cheap car, do a drive to one of the NP's like Zion, Death Valley, or Grand Canyon. Check for a package that includes flight and car and maybe a night in Vegas at the beginning or end of the trip. Right now there are super cheap deals for the weeks between Thanksgiving and Christmas and the week after the New Year.

DebitNM Oct 20th, 2011 10:16 AM

Again, without know the time of year this pertains to, all of these suggestions aren't very helpful.

{and the link provided above by the new poster is clearly an ad which seems to be for military and fed employees, maybe.}

We would be traveling in early March.

japw82 Oct 22nd, 2011 06:46 AM

Check out Allegiant Air for flights. They fly out of several midwest cities to Florida, Las Vegas, etc.. Then use priceline to secure a hotel room. You can research winning hotels and bids at There are other sites to research hotel rooms/flights such as travelzoo and hotwire. Congratulations on your upcoming marriage. Hope you find a wonderful honeymoon destination.

DebitNM Oct 22nd, 2011 07:31 AM

OK, so now we have a time frame.

Are you closer to Midway-Chicago or Indianapolis? Thinking about flights.

southwest has some good options for air and hotel deals as well as cruise deals.

suewoo Oct 22nd, 2011 08:20 AM

Paris, have you considered Charleston, SC? It's drivable for you. March is a great time of year to visit. The flowers will be blooming, the air will be soft. It will be too cold to go in the ocean, but walks on the beach are possible. the beautiful city of Charleston is near the beaches when you want to enjoy historic homes and gardens AND some fabulous food.

Search VRBO for Isle of Palms or Folly Beach. Hotels in the Historic District can be pricey, but March is not high season. Try to see what hotels are available for your dates. Post back if you have questions.

nytraveler Oct 22nd, 2011 09:41 AM

If the $1000 includes transportation you will need to either 1)drive - to a pleasant and inexpensive place nearby that you haven;t been to before or 2) check out which airlines has super cheap fares from the nearest airport. (Although to tell you the truth anything but driving doesn;t seem possible for $1000 - if you want a decent place to stay and to eat in restaurants.)

Paris2013 Oct 22nd, 2011 04:22 PM

Thanks everyone for the tips, ideas, and congratulations! For the record we're equidistant from both Indy & Chicago. I think I'm going to check out New Orleans, Charleston, and maybe Savanah (not mentioned here). If there are any other tips or ideas, please continue to share! :)
