Honeymoon Ideas

My daughter is looking for ideas for a honeymoon in June 2009. Budget is definately an issue, want great memories of her honeymoon but don't want to drain the bank either. Staying in the US fine but if there are any ideas for cheap honeymoons out of the country is okay too. Somewhere romantic, but not overly touristy. Thanks for any ideas!

The knot is a great source of information:

do they want beach? mountain? what do they like to do?

Daughter and fiance like beach and warm climate. They enjoy the beach and some water sports. Mild golf fans. Really into jazz music/swing era.

But for jazz and swing, I would highly recommend one of the mid-range resorts (Marriott, Dreams..) in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. June is considered an off-season for it being warm and rather humid, rates will be lower, and much fun can be had. A decent value, IMO.

So, do they like mariachi bands?

Beach. Warm weather. Golf. Jazz music. On a tight budget. Not too touristy. In June. Hmmmm.

The nice thing about the Atlantic Coast is that SOME part of it has good weather just about any time of the year. June may be too warm for either Florida (my first thought) or even Georgia, but the Outer Banks should be just fine weatherwise. Problem is, they don't have a lot of music -- it's a lot more laid back.

If a music scene is a MUST, then Miami would be the best spot, even if the weather will be hot and humid, and tourists will be ever-present. Or POSSIBLY the Gulf Shore west of Gulfport (having never been there, I don't know how nice it was even before Katrina damage) from which you can make a dash to New Orleans as desired.

Another possible compromise is near Charleston, South Carolina -- VERY laid back and charming, with some music available, and beaches and wonderful gardens nearby.

I second the recommendation for Dreams in Puerto Vallarta. My DH and I honeymooned there in Sept 2006 and have been "dreaming" about going back since!

this might sound stupid considering we are on the US board, but... if you live somewhere close to the canadian boarder... given the criteria of: bach, warm weather, golf, jazz music, on a tight budget, not too touristy.

sounds like cuba to me... have them fly in and avoid having their passports stamped. i went with some americans i went to university with and they loved it...

i realize this isn't ideal given the potential fines associated with it, but staying in or near Havana gives you access to sun, beach, golf and amazing culture and a great music scene. we were lucky enough to stumble upon the buena vista social club playing a show with about 150 people in havana... one of the highlights of my life.

early june you wouldn't really have to worry about hurricane's yet and the prices are cheap.

My first thought was Mexico as well given the value of the dollar there.

Additional thoughts:
-Look for honeymoon packages where there might be additional savings
-Look at different timing options. For example I would rather go to a nice place for 5 days versus a dump for 2 weeks
-If she hasn't registered yet you can register for financial help on the honeymon. For example as a wedding gift someone could buy one night in a hotel or a dinner nearby, etc.

Hope that helps.

I'll also throw in Mexico.
