Honeymoon Help - AI in Punta Cana or Maui for 10 Days

Hi, we just cancelled our 2 week honeymoon to Europe because my new hubby wants to go to a beach instead and save a bit of money.

We have from June 15 - July 1 to play with and can't decide between Maui or Punta Cana. They are the same price but PC is all inclusive so we would not spend more on food. However we were in PC in November and have never been to Hawaii.

Any suggestions? Is Maui expensive for eating and drinking? I've also heard that you need a car in Maui.

If you want to see anything other than your hotel, a car is needed on Maui. And yes, food and drink are expensive, although there's much less expensive and much more expensive - depends what you're comparing it to.

June 15 is next Saturday. Have you priced tickets to Maui from wherever you are flying from?

Yes you need a car on Maui, try discounthawaiicarrental.com for a good price from a major company.
Maui is gorgeous, have not been to Punta Cana as flights from CA where I live are expensive.

I prefer Hawaii over Punta Cana. I don't really do the All inclusives...I prefer to explore locally and eat at different restaurants. Although some people do prefer the AI route...it is up to you on what you want on your honeymoon. If you prefer to just let the resort take care of you and want to do little research...then by all means go to the all inclusive in PC... the beaches are really beautiful there. If you want to experience Hawaiian culture, cuisine, exploration, amazing snorkeling, and gorgeous scenery...then definitely visit Hawaii. Although, with only a week left, you might not want to get bogged down in the research. IT's DOable though!! Buy the Maui Revealed guidebook - stay at a luxury resort in Wailea or Kaanapali, you can't go wring. Yes you must rent a car. Food and drink are expensive but there are cheaper, casual options too outside of resorts. Exploring is half the fun. As a brief intro, here are some things to do: Road to Hana, Haleakala crater for sunrise or sunset, snorkeling at blackrock, dining at Mama's Fish House. I'm not a luau person but many rave about old lahaina luau. Lahaina Front Street has lots of bars and restaurants. Also the town of Kihei has inexpensive casual fare and bars as well. Enjoy your honeymoon, whatever you decide!

I love Hawaii (6 trips). The DR didn't do much for me (2 trips). Yes you need a car on Maui. There are ways to not spend a bunch of money. Get a condo with a kitchen and shop at the grocery store. Eat at the 'plate lunch' places or a shrimp truck. Do free things rather than expensive tours and formal activities. Hawaii isn't "cheap" but you don't have to break the bank. I'm a budget traveler and do just fine there.

go to Maui. It will be hot and humid in DR.
Stay at the Kaanapali Beach HOtel if you are on a budget, or the Maui Kaanapali Villas for a reasonable condo on the beach. Personally, I would spend the extra $$$ and get a nice hotel. find a good travel agent to help you
