Honeymoon Help :- ) !
 

Hey all, just recently joined this site and find it fascinating! Maybe someday i'll be traveled enough to post some of my own helpful tips.
I'm right in the midst of planning a 10 day honeymoon trip on the northeast coast (maine if anyone has any good ideas) starting September 9th. My fiance and I are a young couple, early 20's and hoping for some adventure along the lines of beautiful hiking, mountain biking and kayaking. She also mentioned she'd like to stay along some small coastal towns we could bed and breakfast at? I'm thinking we'd like to stay in two or three spots over the course of our trip...
If any of you could shoot out some ideas I would really appreciate it!

Congratulations Steve on your upcoming wedding. If you've never been to Bar Harbor and Acadia, you should have that on your list. It's beautiful and you can hike, bike, and Kayak to your heart's desire. You can go whale watching, and visit some coastal islands via ferry.

Another very charming town is Camden, and a lot of people like Boothbay, but I think Boothbay is very touristy.

thanks for the heads up...just figured that out about a day ago and that has saved the headache of having to repost and what not :- )

Acadia national park will give much of what you are looking for. It's a great place to go hiking, biking, sightseeing, dining on the local seafood. There are coastal towns and villages, as well as outer islands you can vist by mail ferry. Travel along Rte 1, starting north of Portland and see towns such as Freeport, Bath, Camden and Belfast on the way to Acadia.

I agree that BBH is touristy .... you might want to look at the twin villages of Damariscotta & Newcastle / Pemaquid Peninsula as a stop off point as you make your way up the coast. I live there and absolutely LOVE it.

My husband & I just returned from our honeymoon in Maine. We stayed mainly in Portland and Bar Harbor.

I definately recommned Bar Harbor & Acadia NP. We rental mtn bikes and spent a day riding through the park. It was gorgeous!! It was the best part of the trip for me. We also did a sea kayak tour. We stayed at a B&B called Inn at Bay Ledge. It was very nice and the innkeepers Jack & Jeani were wonderful. The B&B is about a 10 minute drive into downtown Bar Harbor.

In Portland we stayed at the Portland Harbor Hotel. It is a very nice hotel. I recommned eating at J's Oyster House. Its a hole-in-the-wall kind restaurant but very good food!! We ate there a few times.

Another recommendation... If you go through Wiscasset there is a little shack right before the bridge on Rt 1 called Red's Eats that has great lobster rolls.

Ogunquit is also a very nice place to stay. Very quant village
