Honeymoon Help
We're getting married next summer (!) - it's looking like the end of June. Originally we wanted to go to Italy for our honeymoon but we're really into nice cool weather and we think the crowds and heat are too risky now for July in Italy.
Any ideas for a great mountain resort (I'm thinking Big Sur, Jackson Hole, somewhere in Glacier Nat'l Park) that's no more than $300/night but has beautiful weather in July, a spa, wonderful romantic honeymoon atmosphere? Basically, where would YOU go on a honeymoon in July if you could go anywhere? Thanks! |
Well, as an expert who's been married for 6 wks (haha), We went to Italy for our honeymoon. We were there in June and the crowds weren't too bad. I don't know how July compares but both of agree we'd go back to Italy in a heartbeat, at any time of year! It was a wonderful honeymoon. We probably spent more than $300/day w/food, lodging and everything else but we stayed in pretty nice places.
We tossed around Hawaii and San Fran too...We've both been to San Francisco and Napa and loved it. It would be a great place to go. Another place I love, is Vancouver and Vancouver Is. (Victoria) Van. Is. is huge so have only seen a little bit but it's pretty and weather is great in July. My brother and sister-in-law did a Pacific NW/Canadian Rockies honeymoon and loved it! And the US$ goes pretty far in Canada. Just food for thought! Congrats to you both! Debbie |
Hi! We also went to Italy for our honeymoon last year (end of May - start of June). We traveled to Rome, Positano, and Sicily and truly loved it. The crowds weren't huge and the weather was very warm, but not unbearable. For a mountain spot I would recommend Whistler in BC. They have several nice hotels (i.e, the Westin or the Pan Pacific, I think that's the name). Whistler and Vancouver would offer plenty to do any time of year.
Congratulations! Jo Ann |
We have traveled a lot and only cried twice on our return date. Our honeymoon to Hawaii: Oahu, Maui, the big island & Kauai. Tons to do or not. And when we went to Africa. It was the most romantic, awesome, unforgettable vacation ever. We went on safari in Botswana.
Another romantic spot, Napa. Ever thought about Colorado? Summer is beautiful in the Vail/Beaver Creek area. Happy wedding and honeymoon...COONGRATS! |
I'd recommend Whistler, B.C. Gorgeous small village, surrounded by mountains -- lots of hiking, biking, etc. if you want, but the village itself has great restaurants, hotels, shops, and spas. It also has a very international flavor to it.
Banff might be a good choice, too. I've stayed in Lake Louise (gorgeous) but Banff has a bit more to do. |
Banff or Whistler would be great! If you did Whistler, you could also ferry over to Victoria, BC and stay at the Empress Hotel. Victoria is like a little touch of England on the N. American continent. The Empress is gorgeous. It's one of the grand hotels the Canadian railroad built to get visitors into and around Canada. There's a great series running on pubic television right now on them. Chateau Lake Louise (outside Banff) is a recreation of a French chateau is is absolutely gorgeous. The Banff Springs hotel is fabulous too.
The best thing about any of the above? With the exchange rate it's like all of Cananda is on sale. At the time I went it was the equivalent of everything 30% off. I had to buy extra luggage when the Eddie Bauer up there was having their annual sale. With the exchange rate I paid almost nothing for a suitcase full of clothes (I am NOT exaggerating). Take a look at those options if you like "nice cool weather". |
We honeymooned in the Canadian Rockies years ago and absolutely loved it. We stayed at a few places...the Banff Springs Hotel, Baker Creek Chalets, and Emerald Lake Lodge. We were there is mid September and the weather was great...cool how we like it:)
We have been to Italy in April and May and really enjoyed it. Since we prefer cooler weather I wouldn't voluntarily go there in the summer, but thats just me. |
thank you all so much! all these ideas are so helpful.
canada is lookin good!!! |
I haven't been here- but what about Montreal. I had a friend from Montreal who wanted me to go with her to visit family, but I never got the chance to go. You are also close to Quebec City and probably lots of hiking and canoeing. They would probably have good weather in July.

I looked at your post and it said June, sorry. I also LOVED San Fran when we went several years ago and Big Sur is unbelievable. It is stunning!

Have you thought of Crested Butte in Colorado? They have a wedding garden on the mountain and the views are incredible. The town in awesome.
