Honeymoon destination
 

Just about to tie the knot. My fiancé is suggestion Half moon bay, California for our honeymoon.
Anyone one here who have some ideas about the place?

How long is the honeymoon? Would you also spend a few days in San Francisco?

What time of year? The area gets a lot of fog, sometimes really dense.

Ritz Carlton Half Moon Bay. But when is this trip? Would make a difference due to Covid restrictions.

Need a bit more info. Where are you coming from? Any other plans for California?

Half Moon Bay area itself is lovely for a two night stay, even without going far. As Jean asked, above, would yo ouse it as your "base" for a trip to San Francisco.
You can drive up or down the coast, or a bit inland to Pescadero Village, both a world way from the city.
Daughter stayed a few weeks ago at Mavericks Inn nr HMB and loved it. You 're much closer to the ocean--just about ON it, from private patio looks directly to the ocean-- than at the much pricier and much larger Ritz Carlton, which my family has also stayed at.

Thanks Jean, we are taking 3 weeks after the festivities.
That should take as up to first two weeks of the New year.
Hopefully it won't be too foggy.

Where else are you planning on spending your honeymoon? Half Moon Bay is lovely for about 2 nights, maybe 3 max.

You mean THIS New Year??? Surely not.

January is the height of our rainy season and if there are storms (and we really hope there are because California needs a LOT of rain between Dec and March to survive the rest/dry months) I would not want to base a honey moon in Half Moon Bay.

And if you mean this December/January . . . San Mateo County is just about in total lock down.

Despite assorted restrictions, people are still taking trips. If you are going in December/January, you likely know many of our wonderful Northern Calif attractions are closed. Of the Bay Area counties, San Mateo now has the fewest restrictions, although who knows how long that will last.

Of course, the beautiful outdoors is here to enjoy but as JanisJ said above, if we’re lucky enough to have rain, it could be then.

Which is one reason the situation is so bad - hospitals running out of beds, around 3,000 people a day dying.... And why the medical authorities are asking (begging) people to stay home.

I have no objection to people endangering themselves, but endangering others is another matter entirely.

If you want to go rock climbing and you fall and break your neck, fine. But if the weather is bad and you have been warned to stay home, and you go anyway and get stuck and someone dies trying to rescue you, not at all fine.

Nope - don't come in Dec or Jan.

I've lived in San Mateo County for 40 years (SF before that) and go to Half Moon Bay (20 mins away) quite often to grab a sandwich at the San Benito House deli or lunch at Sam's Chowder House ( https://www.samschowderhouse.com/ ) or Betty's & drive along the coast & take some scenic inland routes. Don't know what things will be like in January (it is raining now), but I think almost all restaurants are closed for inside dining (or at least very few people are choosing to dine inside). Lots of places offer outside dining, but if it is raining & 50 degrees outside - that doesn't seem like a romantic dinner out. Actually, when we were in HMB about 2 weeks ago, I did not see any restaurants set up for outside dining like we have on Burlingame Ave near were we live. San Mateo County is one of the very few counties in the SF Bay Area that has "less" than severe Covid restrictions (no inside/outside dining in San Francisco). But that may change. And I think 1 1/2 days along the San Mateo Coast would be about 1/2 days too long if you can't have lunch or dinner inside at a restaurant or it's raining or cloudy).
