Honeymoon at Hilton Hawaiian Village
 

Greetings from Ireland. <BR> <BR>My travel agent is advising me to stay at the Hilton Hawaiian Village hotel. I checked out teir website but it doedn't tell me much. Has anyone stayed there? Any comments....good, bad or indifferent? <BR> <BR>I like the central location and I like the facilities. Can I change /upgrade my room from that on a package when I get there. <BR> <BR>The rate given by my travel agent is pretty similar to that given on their web site so that is not an issue. <BR> <BR>Thank you in advance for your time and help. <BR> <BR>

To be honest with you, the Hilton is not really smack dab in the middle of things...it is at the end of Waikiki. You would do much better to look into the Sheraton Moana Surfrider or the Royal Hawaiian or, if budget permits, the Halekulani. The exterior of the Hilton is impressive but the interior quality varies and it not up to usual Hilton standards.

Avoid, avoid, avoid! Yeech! Please don't come such a long way and get stuck at the Hilton! Annemarie has good advice--try the Sheraton (gorgeous & recently redone) or Royal Hawaiian if you want to be in Honolulu. The Halekulani is among the best in the world but definitely not the same price bracket.

I agree - there are many nicer places. We stayed there in December and were disappointed.

I heard that Hilton renovates some of their rooms into timeshare units. Not sure if all rooms were renovated or not. Maybe you can call to find out. <BR>They sent us a promotion to stay at a very reasonable price in order to sell their timeshare but we declined. <BR>Cathy

Paddy...gosh all the way from Ireland!!Hope you have a terrific time. Should ask how long you would be staying in Waikiki...depending on your timelines you may be able to get out for a few days and take on another island??

I don't know what expectations others have of hotel properties, but my husband and i stayed in the DiamondHead tower for 5 days and we could not find one single thing to complain about. This is a joke with us based on some friends of our. Look, dear, you must find something!! Nothing, honey, I can't find anything. It's all just right. From the free drink coupons we received for just looking pleasant I suppose to the excellent service and the courteous advise when we rented a car. I just had nothing but good to say about the Hawaiian Hilton Village. My husband was there on business and I took full advantage of the shopping and the relaxing on the beach. A superlative experience! I would go back tomorrow! <BR>

Hi <BR>Just returned from a 16 day Hawaiian Vacation. Spent 3 nights 4 days at Hawaiian Hilton,stayed there because I have two teenage daughters, they loved it. It was nice, I have seen it it the past. The beach is beautiful. But very crowed and busy. For Honeymoon I would agree with other posts. Sheraton hawaiian, Royal Hawaiian my favorite if budget permits is the Haleakala (not sure of spelling) truly paradise. If you have any questions feel free to email me. <BR>Cheryl

Aloha Paddy! And congratulations on your upcoming marriage. <BR> <BR>I don't know if you've been to Hawaii before, but I want to share an experience with you. We were there about 8 months ago and went to a big luau dinner event. We were seated next to a couple from Ireland. It was their first time in Hawaii and they liked it, but said they didn't like the cultural practice of Hawaiians saying "Aloha!" and the audience yelling back "Aloha!". They told us that it seemed impolite and wouldn't happen in Ireland (I don't know if that's true or not, since I've not ever lived in Ireland). In fact, they said that if they had known the luau was going to be so participative (in that the audience participated a lot), they wouldn't have attended. So, practice your Aloha before you leave! I hope you have a truly wonderful honeymoon! <BR> <BR>

Stay here. It is definetly less crowder then the center of Waikiki.It is a beautiful Hotel. We stayed in the Ali'i Tower. I would recommend this tower highly and I am very particular. The center of Waikiki Beach is much to crowded for me. Hope this helps.

I am looking at the Hilton Hawaiian Village for a stay in January. We were going to stay at the new Lagoon Tower in a 2 BR suite. Does anyone know if this is actually a NEW tower or simply renovated old rooms? Any info/advice would be great!

We stayed at the Hilton Hawaiian village last July. We had a great room, no complaints. In 96 we stayed at the Sheraton Moana........LOVED IT!!!!!!! If I ever go again we will stay at the Sheraton, the place has such charm. <BR> <BR>Robin I don't think the Lagoon Tower is new. It was being worked on when we were there last July, I could be wrong, but I thought it was just being updated. At the time, the lagoon was not more than a mud puddle, I'm sure it's better now. I think you will enjoy your stay.

The Hilton Hawaiian Village was TERRIBLE! we had problems with the staff (entering our room unannounced on several occasions) and tereible service. I will not stay there again, not for business and certainly not for pleasure.

We'll be staying at the Hilton Hawaiian Village for a week this June. I was disappointed to read so many bad reviews. Has anyone been there lately? Has it gotten any better?

Stayed at the Hilton in June after being on Kauai at the Sheraton. I hated it. It is like Disney World, millions of people. We stayed in the Ali tower. So many people couldn't the service that we had gotten at the Sheraton. I would never stay there again.

Abby, I really enjoyed my stay there. Went in September and it wasn't very crowded, but still couldn't find a chair at the pool. But my wife and I found it to be a fascinating place and were very pleased. Had a partial ocean view which wasn't that good, but we only slept there anyway. It's not like you are at a motel 6, and no hotel is without its occasional bad day, but I was happy.

Stayed at the Lagoon Tower in December. It was beautiful!!!! Whether it is a renovation or not that won't dissappoint you! It was an apartment to itself. The views were beautiful and the lanai a wonderful place for a drink or a meal. Would I choose it for a honeymoon??No way..too big and busy.. I would go for the Kahala Mandarin.

For a honeymoon definitely stay away from the hawaiian village. Royal Hawaiian would be my choice. Stayed there in January and it was very nice.

I wouldn't watse my time at the commericalized hotel especially on your honeymoon. I would reccomend The Kahala Mandarian Oriental. It is quiet, only a mile away from the action. It is in an upscale residental area, and it has its own private beach. The rooms are out of this world. It is a very special place, and the Hilton Hawaiian Village is not. It is very very crowded and unplesant. The Kahala has its own dolphin lagoon. The food is really good. CN traveler rated its rooms the best in the United States. We payed $295 for a mountain view room, and that is in line with the Hilton and is far better. TRUST ME!
