Honeymoon/Aspen/February?

Thinking of a honeymoon in Aspen in February.....What do you experienced fodorites think? Been to Vail, but never Aspen. We would love to stay somewhere with a great view, chill out by a fire, eat some great food, and ski for a couple of days. Probably be there 6 nights. Any recs on where to stay, where to eat, and what to do are greatly appreciated!

For history (haven't seen the rooms, but the lobby is beautiful), the Jerome Hotel.

It will be expensive. What is your skiing ability? Ajax mountain (Aspen) is geared towards intermediate and advance skiers with emphasis on advance. Because Aspen sits at the foot of the mountains there are not a lot great views. A better choice MIGHT BE Snowmass. There the condos are spread out along the slope. Lot of really nice ski in/out locations. And Snowmass is a huge cruising mountain.

Even if I were skiing at Snowmass, I would stay in Aspen (and take the free town shuttle to Snowmass to ski). Snowmass is a ski area, with lots of places to buy a hat and gloves, and lots of condos, but no town. Aspen, on the other hand, is a great town that happens to have a fabulous ski mountain dead center, with hotels, fabulous (and not so fabulous) and expensive (and not so expensive) restaurants and shopping, etc.

Yes, it will be expensive. There is the Ritz Carlton and the Little Nell on the mountain. Agree about the difference between Aspen and Snowmass re the town and ambience. Hotel Jerome would be nice--no view, if I recall correctly.
And to add to the "expense" if you choose Presiden's weekend it will be even moreso!!

I agree about staying in Aspen, not Snowmass, for its ambience. The Hotel Jerome is a fabulous historic property, with awesome customer service. We stayed there once, in a corner suite, and were treated like royalty. It's my favorite splurge hotel there, because I like its history.

The Little Nell is very glitzy, and is the place to be seen, if you want to pull up in your Hummer and get lots of attention. Turns me off.

We have stayed at Aspen Square, which is a condo-hotel right in town. It is nice, but be sure you specify that you want a newly-redecorated place. They are individually owned, and once we had a spectacular new place, but another visit we had a tacky past-its-prime place, for the same price. So be sure to specify.

The Gant is another good condo-hotel, which is a short and pleasant walk from the town center. They price their units according to decorations, so you know what you are getting there.

Aspen in February will be expensive. But if you can afford it, go for it. Hey, it's your honeymoon after all!

There's also a St. Regis in Aspen which is beautiful.
