Honestly, Travel book amigos

The travel book post made it to the 100 post mark before it got pulled. I made the good old 100 and then a few posts later...gone. Good Times everyone.

fehgeddaboudit Jun 6th, 2005 05:02 PM

Good Times, gyppielou.

rockhopper7 Jun 6th, 2005 05:08 PM

Congrats, gyppielou!

Why did it get pulled?

gyppielou Jun 6th, 2005 05:16 PM

I honestly don't know since Travel books should always be travel related?! But I never read 101 and 102.....and then pooooffff.

karens Jun 6th, 2005 05:18 PM

Perhaps fodors does not wish to have THEIR books purchased, used, and then returned?

dsm22 Jun 6th, 2005 06:30 PM

aw, man! What did I miss?? I haven't a clue why it got pulled. The last post I read was starville's after mine.

Then I had to let the husband use the computer. Then I had to watch Hells Kitchen. Geepers, can't be away for a couple of hours without missing everything! :)

Scarlett Jun 6th, 2005 06:51 PM

Let me guess why it got pulled :)Someone posted a really lame thread and got embarrassed. So....

It was fun while it lasted :D

Scarlett Jun 6th, 2005 07:02 PM

Maybe it was the cruelty to shoes that got someone upset? gyppie???

easytraveler Jun 6th, 2005 07:58 PM

It got PULLED???!!! Being away for a whole day is not a good idea. Too many things happen on Fodors.

How can we honestly give our honest opinions if they are honestly travel-related and the thread gets pulled? :)

GoTravel Jun 7th, 2005 04:16 AM

Methinks Lealane and leelane is one in the same and wacko to boot.

Pity the shoes, the poor neglected shoes.

joan Jun 7th, 2005 04:24 AM

GoTravel, wouldn't that be the sweetest irony? A gal who writes travel books (Leelane) for Fodor's, coming on Fodor's (leilani911) to admit she returns travel books after using them "a little"....maybe that's why it got pulled! Too funny!

GoTravel Jun 7th, 2005 04:27 AM

joan, I think more than one person is scratching their head on that one.

OO Jun 7th, 2005 06:27 AM

What a shame it got pulled. That thread had great historic significance! It is the first time, I am 100% certain, in Fodors history, that virtually every person who replied was in agreement with each other and in disagreement with the OP. Historic!! Let's all make note of that and create a Hall of Infamy, where Lealane911's name stands singularly by itself, a party of one. LOL :D

suze Jun 7th, 2005 06:31 AM

Can't the original poster request that their thread be deleted by Fodors??? Maybe leelane was tired of us all making fun of her! I posted 101 just after gyppielou, saying "hurray we broke 100" or somthing like that.

Or as mentioned already, maybe Fodors didn't want to encourage returning used guidebooks and expecting a refund.

OO Jun 7th, 2005 06:45 AM

I say brand her forehead with a big I. I for Infamous, Ignominy, Ingrate, Irresponsible, Icarus, and I'm leaving out the more obvious I's lest this too be pulled.

I would think that thread would discourage potential book returners, rather than encourage them.

Cassandra Jun 7th, 2005 06:53 AM

When last I tuned in, the thread was more about ethics and Leelane's character, which is only travel-related if you're planning a trip to meet Leelane.

GoTravel Jun 7th, 2005 07:04 AM

Cassandra, leelanie accused us of ganging up on her.

Surprisingly, we all agreed that it wasn't her we were ganging up on but her inability to see that what she was doing maybe wasn't the best route to take. She then got angry with us and withdrew from the post.

Scarlett Jun 7th, 2005 07:26 AM

Meanwhile, I am going to Barnes and Noble in a little while and I want to ask their manager what he thinks.
Somehow I bet it will be a different story than the Tall one told here.

OO Jun 7th, 2005 08:42 AM

I'd really be curious as to B&N's spin on that thread Scarlett. Let us know!

While you're there would you ask them if they'd take back my Fodors 5th edition Rome and Streetwise Venice? We decided to go back to Paris last year so they are unused! LOL

bonniebroad Jun 7th, 2005 08:53 AM

Darn, I never got a chance to participate in that one! :p My son worked at Waldenbooks summers and holidays all through college. I remember him saying that they didn't care what you brought back as long as it hadn't been dropped in the toilet or something! :-d The employees were allowed to use the store as a library, which he wasn't sure he approved of. Sounds to me like we're not really talking about store policy here (the pulled thread), but what people feel *right* about.
