Homewood Suites-San Antonio Riverwalk
I am visiting SAT in mid-January. After
reading several posts, I see that most
are recommending either Marriott along
the Riverwalk. I am interested in the
Homewood Suites by Hilton on the Riverwalk.
Has anyone stayed at this hotel? Your
comments are much appreciated!

Haven't stayed there, but the location is OK - a few steps away from the busiest part of the Riverwalk but definitely close enough to walk there easily. It is a smaller property than either Riverwalk Marrriott, not an "upscale" place, rather targets business and family travelers. Rooms all have kitchen facilities - not that you will want to cook with all those good restaurants around you, but it's nice to have a place to stash your doggie bag for a midnight snack. They advertise a daily breakfast and a weekday evening managers' reception at no additional cost. If you do stay there, please post on your return.

I stayed two nights recently in San Antonio at a wonderful place called the Riverwalk Vista. Right at the riverwalk, beautiful rooms, really nice breakfast. It is a newly refurbished building with very nice amenities. Highly recommend. The only downside is parking while you check in. They have no parking area in front, and so check-in is a problem, but they do have parking privileges right across the street.

I stayed there, maybe 2 years back. Thought it was okay -- not great, but okay. The room was clean, but not really a suite -- just a regular hotel room with a microwave and a dorm-size fridge. They charged for parking, which I didn't like. I also didn't care for their location, which, while it *is* on the Riverwalk, is on a lesser-used branch, so it's a hike to the restaurant row part. For the money, it was about average. I've done better though...
Have fun!

I stayed at the Amerisuites 2 yrs ago this month. A bit far from the Riverwalk for my liking but I was in poor shape then (plus we were too cheap to spend cab $$). Clean, comfy rooms, easy parking, and very helpful front desk personnel. I don't remember being nervous about walking so much, just tired!

We stayed at the HAWTHORNE Suites which also is on a little used part of the Riverwalk... did enjoy it though and there was a boat stop in front of the hotel.. unfortunately that part of the riverwalk was closed for renovation 3 years ago.

We stayed at the Marriott Riverwalk and I wasn't very impressed. The location was nice, right on the Riverwalk, and next to the Riovercenter Mall. But, I didn't think the rooms were very nice. They were rather small, or perhaps I have gotten used to the trend towards suites.
The kicker for me was 19.00 a day for valet parking! And of course they expect a tip as well. To park it ourselves in their garage was 17.00 a day. That seems really high to me.

Parking in downtown San Antonio is expensive, whether you are parking in a garage or in a lot. When we travel to San Antonio we usually stay away from downtown so that we can have a nicer room for less, and only pay for parking when we're actually downtown.

We wanted to stay on the Riverwalk. The kicker is, there was a parking garage right by that charged only 6.00 a day for 24 hour parking. The problem is, there were no in and out priveliges. In hindsight, it would have still been much cheaper than parking at the Marriott.
