Homewood Suite in Downtown Seattle

I am planning on meeting 5 friends in Seattle in Aug. and would like some input on the Homewood Suites. How is the location? Are they fairly new? The price seems to be reasonable at $181. I am meeting 5 "friends" that I have been writing to over the internet so we be will be meeting in person for the first time. Would like to have some space and the Homewood seems to offer that. It has 2 bedrooms, full kitchen, dining room and living room.

Thanks to anyone who can help!

What about restaurants in the area? By the way, we met by "dieting" so it needs to be healthy choices.

Thank you for your help.

Hi, Christine,
The Homewood Suites are located in Tukwila, a suburb closer to the Seattle airport than to the city. I'm sure you will find it comfortable enough but the only attractions in the area are a large shopping mall (with the usual surroundings of mini-malls and big hardware stores, clothing outlets, etc.) and a zillion office and industrial parks. Downtown Seattle is around 20-25 minutes by freeway; the area is fairly traffiky. Restaurant choices will be pretty predictable for that sort of area. A car will be essential, by the way.
It sounds like a lot of space for $181, but frankly I'd be surprised if you couldn't match or beat the price somewhere more centrally located, if that's what appeals to you. For example, there are a couple of new Silver Cloud hotels in Seattle, one on Lake Union, the other in the University District, which offer suites for less than that (haven't stayed there, but drive past all the time - they look OK).
Good luck!

Oy.
Sorrrry... there is a new Homewood in downtown Seattle - on Western Avenue near the Pike Market.
Good location, lots to see and do, restaurants aplenty. You'll have fun.
My face is red.
John,

Thanks for taking the time to reply. We are staying downtown on Western Ave. and the words "new" sound nice to me. I was just concerned it may not be easy to get around without a car but I think everything is very close for us to catch any type of public transportation.
Thanks again.

Hi-I live in Seattle and happened to drive by the Homewood Suites you mentioned. They are right West of Seattle Center-the actual location is okay-you will have to walk 2-3 blocks to restaurants-and also to catch the bus-but the bus is free in downtown Seattle so this shouldn't be too much trouble. I thought I also saw one on Pike or Pine around Boren-that would be a little more central to the downtown area-so you might double check.... Near the one on Western, there are some pretty good restaurants-there is one called the Jalisco Taqueria (they actually have 2 restaurants across the street from each other) and they do grill meats and nice light salad/mexican stuff besides all the usual Mexican stuff-it is a nice family restaurant with 4-5 branches that we have gone to for years-also nearer the Seattle Center you will find all sorts of choices-there is a gourmet supermarket called Larry's which has fresh salad bars and all sorts of eat to go or eat to stay stuff-there is also, weirdly enough, a fondue place near there! Also great Thai in that neighborhood-there are three and they are all pretty decent. Anyway, if you want to e-mail me directly, feel free. I will look next time to see if there really is the "other" Homewood Suites I mentioned

Jeanne
