Homer flights

I am planning a trip that involves flying from Anchorage to Homer. Can any of you tell me if the Homer-to-Anchorage flights often get cancelled due to weather conditions? I will be on a very tight schedule, and need to build in extra time if there is much likelihood of this happening.

not too often, Joyce.. ERA has some sturdy commuters. Summer is prime for calm, clear weather.. J.

If you are changing planes in Anchorage, ask to see if your baggage can be transferred to ERA. Ours was. We were surprised and it was so handy not to have to get bags from United and then re-check them with ERA.

Thanks for the information.

I will not be arriving in Anchorage until about 6 PM (if my flight is on time), so I am thinking of staying overnight in Anchorage and then getting a morning flight to Homer.

Some more questions:

1. Do you know whether ERA and Alaska Airlines are the same airline? I checked their schedules for Homer flights, and they are identical.

2. At about what time does it get dark in Anchorage in mid-June?

Joyce, ERA is a partner to Alaska Air, so you'll get miles.. the Homer airport is much smaller, and commuter size planes are used from Anchorage..(when I lived there, we did have jet service, long ago).

You will have daylight until quite late in June, at the height of our long summer days..
often, it annoys me, having to wear sunglasses, driving back home from Anchorage, at 10 pm..

Thanks for the information. Do you remember if it is still light between 9 and 10 PM? If I can see the scenery from the plane, I may get the late night flight to Homer instead of staying overnight in Anchorage. I think there is a flight that leaves at about 9 PM.

I mean, in mid-June. I just noticed your note refers to light conditions at 10 PM.

Joyce, the longest day of the year is June 21. In the middle of the night it's a little dusky but still light. We have video of Mt Denali DH took at 1am from a cabin deck. I flew ANC to Kenai, not as far as Homer but it wasn't scenic. Maybe we were too high.

Thanks! That's great news. There is so much I want to see during my visit that the long days will be very helpful.
