Homer AND Seward?
 

We are a group of 6 adults going to AK for a week. We definitely want to see Seward, but trying to decide if driving to HOMER from Seward is worth the drive. Any advice? We do want to fish.
Also, any recommendations on great places for groups to stay in Seward?

Homer to Seward is very well worth the drive. Both are wonderful places and it is an easy drive. Homer has charm and if you want to fish, that's probably the place to go. If you want to go on a charter to fish, there are several places out on the Homer Spit.
Seward has lots to do. You can take several boat tours of your choosing, including the Kenai Fjords, go to places like the Sealife Center, and take a relatively easy hike to Exit Glacier. We stayed at the apartments of the Harborview Inn. The are seperate from the Inn and are down on the water. They are very nice.

I just came back from Alaska last week and had mulled over the same question before I went. I ended up going to both. I stayed in Seward 2 days and Homer 4 days. The drive from Seward to Homer is not difficult but not that exciting, though as you approach Homer you can look over on your right side and see across Cook Inlet to the snow capped volcanoes which is a pretty cool view. I fished 2 days in Homer and caught my limit of halibut as well as a couple of nice salmon. I did not fish in Seward but saw many big halibut being brought to dock there as well. I stayed at the Breeze Inn in Seward which is right near the harbor which is convenient for any day cruises you might take but to be honest hotel location is not that important as the whole town is quite walkable. What is the driving distance and time between these 2 cities ?

180 miles, estimate 4-5+ hours. You have to double back 40 miles on the Seward Highway from Seward to the junction with the Sterling Hwy near Cooper Landing, then south to Homer. Note you will have to re-trace your steps back to Anchorage (if that's where you're heading.)

I also happen to think that the road itself is not particularly thrilling, although it's nice once you hit the Cool Inlet shore. Homer is fun, and if you want to go halibut fishing that's the place.

Thanks all for the advice! We've decided to do Seward for 3 nights and Homer for 3 nights. We'll be staying in Homer at a cottage on a hill @ $150/night for 6 people, which sounds like a great deal! Will let you know how it was.
