Holyoke, MA -- Heritage State Park, worth a visit?

Saw a small listing of attractions recently for Holyoke, MA, specifically:

-Heritage State Park (includes a carousel)
-Volleyball Hall of Fame

Has anyone ever been to these? If so, are they worth a visit (during daylight, of course)? I'm frankly reluctant to consider visiting anything in Holyoke given how dicey this city appears to be the couple times I've ridden through it.

Then again, I enjoyed a day trip I took earlier this year to Lowell, another down-on-its-heels city with an area containing some very good attractions.

Many thanks.

The heritage Park is interesting and has a wonderful old carousel in summer and a good children's museum. Holyoke has some beautiful areas and an interesting old home museum, Wisteriahurst.
