Holocaust museum, DC

Quick question: How early do you have to get to the Holocaust Museum to get passes to the main exhibit? Is it possible to go in the morning and then get passes for later in the afternoon??

Thanks, Wendi

you can book ahead on line quite easily
as for getting same day tickets, it all depends- some days are very busy, others not

Yeah, I called too late for tickets online. They told me I had to get same day tickets.

I used to be a member of the museum. When I wanted same-day tickets I would have to stand in the MEMBERS ONLY line. There were usually only a couple of people in that line.

HOWEVER, the non-members line was down the street and around the block by 6 AM. I am not pulling a mickey on you, guv.

I went to museum on holiday w/end and had a short time in the line...check for information on when to get in line and the hours with visitor center in Reagan Bldg or visitor center in Castle Smithsonian...do it the day before you plan visit to museum...I have been to museum several times...a raining day and crowds moving you alone gives a demention unique to the experience...

I went in Oct and had no issues getting tickets but it was not a busy time of the year.

Most of the time, you do better if you come in after 3:00pm. As a guide/tour director, I am often asked to get my group in without tickets. If you go at 3:00pm or later, there is usually no problem (the museum is open until 6:30pm through June 12, 2009; after that, it closes at 5:30pm). Tickets are only required during the spring and summer, so, if you came in fall, you would not have had a ticket issue.

Now for the big secret about Holocaust Museum tickets. They are stamped only as to time, but you don't have to show up only at that time. You have to show up at that time or later. So, for example, if you have a ticket that says "12:15pm" and you show up at 3:00pm, you will get in.

The big problem in spring is student groups. They prebook most of the prebook tickets and come in a short window of time (March-June). I advise people coming to DC to NOT COME IN SPRING if they do not have to.
