I need feedback on the Hollywood Beach Marriottt. I want to take 15 and 17 yo. How is the beach, activities within walking distance, pool, ...... At 600/week I thought it was a good deal. Any recommendations would be appreciated.

The Hollywood Beach Marriott is an outstanding property and that is a steal!

Hollywood Beach is the prettiest beach in South Florida.

The hotel is on the Broadwalk (not Boardwalk) which has tons of dining, shopping, and entertainment options.

While in Hollywood make sure you eat at Le Tub. Oprah said they have the best burger in the United States.

Make sure you go down to the Westin Diplomat on the waterway side to Nikki Marina and sit outside and eat sushi (excellent sushi) and watch the mega yachts go down the waterway.

Count me in for the third positive vote. Great hotel, great price and Hollywood Beach is a great place.

How is Holloywood in July? Is it too rainy? Can the kids swim the water? Is there any surfing?

South Florida gets rain in July, but it's not rainy. Occasional passing thunderstorms is the norm. The water will be as warm as it gets. Yes they can swim in the water.

I can't comment on surfing.

My family and I love Hollywood. Surfing is farther up North. The closest waves are just North of the Pompano Beach Pier. However, at this time of year it is pretty much a lake out there. Every Sunday Morning they give free surf lessons and even provide the boards. Check out Myohmiami.com for more information on this.

The water is a delight at this time of year, warm and calm. As mentioned above, it rains from time to time, but no bother. Bring along plastic flip flops and you won't care. If you're on the beach, just hit the water until the rain passes (as long as there's no lightning).

Another great activity for teens is snorkeling. Pick up some snorkels and masks on the Hollywood Broadwalk or go to Wings. Fish are abundant and it is a great family activity. Again, check out the website for great places to snorkel. It has been a wealth of information for my family and I.

Snorkeling is everywhere!! Just go in the water and you will see fish. However, there are some State Parks (once again, check Myohmiami.com for the listings) that offer special snorkeling. We love to go to John Pennekamp State Park. It is far, the beach is a bit sad (small, rocky and crowded), but they have a sunken ship that you can swim out to that is fabulous. Or you can take their snorkeling cruise and see a real reef. Otherwise, Biscayne National Park offers good snorkeling. Another favorite is Red Reef Park up in Boca Raton. Beautiful beach, natural red reef rocks just offshore and an abundance of fish!

With teens, you might want to consider scuba diving.

I realized that this is a "stale" post, but for anyone searching on Hollywood Beach, I thought that I would add a link to a video website of HB which not only has videos of the broadwalk and beach, but also has a couple of pages of info about HB for vacationers and visitors... Belatedly, the Marriot is definitely great, but it was converted from an old deco style HoJo's (Howard Johnsons) and it is small rooms, elevators, an old hotel that has been fixed up to the max. Some better (non-elevator) low rise right on the broadwalk motels are nearby, like the Walkabout Beach Resort. Here is a link to the HB video site: http://www.lifesacoast.com
