HOLIDAYS A TREAT OR JUST STRESS

Do you look forward to Holiday time, planing where to go ,what to do. Or is it all just STRESS! Will the Hotel be OK will the flights be on time? Share your thoughts with other Fodorites!

Just got back from a 10 day vacation in Florida. (Tampa/St.Pete area by the way, we had a great time!!!) No, it was not stress, even though we have a 3 year old (almost). I figured, anything that came along, including missed flight, lost luggage, whatever, I didn't care because I was on vacation!! I know that sounds hard to believe but if we missed a flight we would eventually get there and if the luggage got lost, well, they sell clothes in St. Pete. It's a great attitude to have, because it rubs off on other people. Ya just gotta relax. To quote one of my husband's and my favorite movie lines (from Say Anything if anyone is a John Cusack fan) "YOU MUST CHILL! YOU MUST CHILL! I HAVE TAKEN YOUR FIREBIRD KEYS! CHILL!!!!" We used it a few times while we were gone and we just wound up laughing. Try it.

Oh, by the way, the only reason I capped the movie line was because John Cusack truly yelled it in the movie. So, for anyone who has been reading the "DON'T CAP AT ME!" thread, that's the reason....

If by "holiday" you mean "vacation" then, yes, I love my vacations! I enjoy the planning part almost as much as the trip itself. Even when I'm on vacations that involve more sightseeing than relaxing, I still love just about every minute of it. I also enjoy going on one trip and then starting to plan where we'll head next.

As for the word "holiday," that makes me think of Thanksgiving, Christmas, etc. And, yes, those trips are often full of stress! They're often difficult b/c of trying to see lots of family in a short amount of time. None of our families live close, so we're usually expected to travel somewhere. The longer we've been married, the more we've started to shorten those trips just b/c we need some time off to be on our own and relax a bit. Of course, it drives me crazy when we do visit family and are told, "You don't visit enough." My belief is that we should enjoy the time we do spend together rather than complaining about not seeing one another enough. Thanks for letting me vent a little.

Thanks for the input. "Holiday" was intended to give the option of "vacation" Or "holiday" as the two can be quite diffetent for the reasons given. I tend to side with "puddin" but it can be difficult at times to "CHILL".
As for visits to relatives I think we all can find that a bit stressful at times!

This is my favorite type of stress! Ready to have it any time, anywhere, any destination :)

Holidays(vacations) are what you make of them. If you let it be stressful,it will be. If you take the hassels as they come with a grain of salt,it wont be.

I could see where a HOLIDAY/VACATION might be a little stressful if you plan on taking a driving trip through Boston to Maine, and to Italy in the same month!
