Holiday Trip close to Detroit
Can anyone suggest a short, one day trip near Detroit (2-4hrs drive time). We already been to Frankenmuth many times. Looking for lots of holiday decorations, small town Christmas experience, sleigh rides, shopping in little gift/craft stores. Planned on Greenfield Village but saw it was closed for restoration until Spring 2003. Thanks!

Katie, I would suggest the Dicken's Festival, held every weekend in Holly, Michigan. The website is: http://www.hollymi.com/dickens.htm Another possibility is Crossroads Village, near Flint. http://www.geneseecountyparks.org/christmas.htm

Go to Marshall Michigan

Katie-<BR>Try the holiday light display at the Toledo Zoo, just about 75 minutes south of downtown Detroit. The Zoo is in a old but very well established and safe neighborhood with easy access off of I-75/475. The Zoo has many indoor animal exhibits (we always like the giraffes!) and the lights are very nice. It's not small town but a nice spot to visit. <BR><BR>On the way, during the daylight hours, visit the tiny town of Blissfield, about 8 miles west on US 223 from the US 23 exit #5.<BR><BR>Also consider a visit to Archbold, OH. Lots of quaint shops and just about 30 minutes west of Toledo. Archbold is also the home of Sauder Products (the home build-it-yourself furniture people). Lots of cute shops and family places to eat---try the Barn at Sauder Village!

If you visit Marshall, as Sid suggested, make sure to have lunch/dinner at the restaurant Win Schullers. {~An institution in Michigan.} It is a very nice, old Michigan town.<BR><BR>Happy Trails,<BR>Paul
