Holiday Inn On The Bay-San Diego

I've finally found a hotel that meets most of my criteria(location, shuttle service, price). Has anyone on here stayed at this hotel? If so, how was the room and the service?

BTW, it's the Holiday Inn located at 1355 N Harbor Drive.

i haven't stayed there personally but have not seen any bad reviews. i think it is your basic holiday inn. almost booked there once but they would not guarantee a bay view room. facing the other direction would not be very nice. great location.

I've stayed there twice but it's been a number of years ago. It is a typical Holiday Inn, but the location can't be beat. There is a great seafood restaurant just accross the street on the water, and it is within easy walking distance to Seaport Village and other touristy places. Both times I got a harbor view room, maybe because I belong to the Holiday Inn Priority Club. I would suggest that you sign up for it if haven't already, as it costs you nothing and you get points for free stays and some amenities during your stay (free newspaper etc).

If you like that location (downtown) you may want to check out the Embassy Suites. Keep in mind that this hotel is not near any beaches (15 minutes driving to nearest)

I am a former S.D. resident. It has been many a year since I have been in San Diego. I am seeking the hotel that is across the street from Anthony's fish grotto. It may have been called the star of the sea. There was a ship called Star of India. I don't even remember the name of the hotel back then, but what is it now? I think I would like that location when I return for a visit. I am also thinking about the Holiday located in Old Town. I love Old Town. Not interested in luxury resort. Been there done that just a visit with family. I will be bringing my husband who has never been to SD, I want a good location. Thanks.

daisee: Thanks. I checked out the rates for the Embassy Suites and it's a little too expensive for me. They want $730 total for three nights. No way. I realize that hotels in most major cities participate in a fair amount of price gouging, but if I'm going to pay that much for a room, it would have to be a trip where I'm hardly going to leave the room and I would be using all of the amenities. I guess my Canadian trips have spoiled me pricewise. Unfortunately, I can't use non-refundable services like Priceline because the nature of my mother's health sometimes requires last minute cancellations.

diann: I believe the hotel that you're referring to is the very Holiday Inn that I'm inquiring about on Harbor Drive.

diann, the hotel is the Holiday Inn on the Bay (not Bayside, that's a diiferent location). The Star of the Sea is Anthony's upscale restaurant across the road. The Star of India is also right across the road from the hotel.

Thanks. I had a feeling this might be the one. It was something else many years ago I think. I know it is very old, but the location is great for my husband and myself. I am still thinking of La Jolla. I know the area and I still am not sure of where I want to stay. I just think for myself, downtown is an ideal location. I always loved that area. The Embarkadero! Thanks again.
