TeacherD, whilst MP was breathtaking, it didn't actually affect my breathing! Cusco was a little rough as far as sleeping; that's really the only time I actually was bothered at all by the altitude, but staying in the Sacred/Urubamba Valley first really seemed to help. Machu Picchu is actually lower than Cusco.

Peru is just wonderful--I stood in so many places and had that "geography book come to life" feeling. And while I'm hijacking (sorry, Scarlett :) ) have you registered yourself on this thread?http://www.fodors.com/forums/threads...mp;tid=1280366 (I'm making a certain assumption here...)

PEEP! PEEP! (Extra long)
from Sydney the Cockatiel. That means- thanks. He got a gift already last weekend from guests of a package of
sugar cane rods and he doesn't know what to make of it yet. It says on the package to offer him one a day. I think with that much he would be flying to the Caribbean without me- and not using the plane either. But not in this weather.

No!He will stay home and we will go to the Caribbean soon. Two great vacations coming up.
