Holes in the wall in NOLA

I've heard that there are some great hole in the wall places for good eats in Louisiana.

Any ideas? I'm heading there Columbus Day weekend.

Heavens yes! Too too many good places to eat in New Orleans.

Uglisiches is the best and coolest but only open on weekdays (as is K-Paul's, which is much more of a hole in the wall than you would expect). Bozo's is probably the next best - very unassuming.

I like Mandina's on Canal Street. It's a classic New Orleans place and the food is great. Very reasonable too.

Muffalettas...the ones at the Napoleon House are better than the "famous" Central Grocery ones to me...R&O's is good too.

The quintessential "hole in the wall" is Mosca's but it's so far out and there's always a wait but if you have time it might be worth it.

One of my very favorite places is Angelo Bracatos. Italian Ice cream, cannolis, espresso...very delish. It's in Mid-City...Just around the corner from where my former boyfriend lived.

Oh oh oh...and if you don't mind going over by the projects there's Dooky Chase's in Treme. Much more elegant inside than outside and good old fashioned Creole food.

Bon Apetite and Lassiz Les Bon Temps Roulez!
Any more suggestions folks?

I also hear NOLA has lots of yummy spots where the tourists don't all hang out.

I'd suggest Petunia's and for a REAL hole-in-the-wall, Deja Vue. Both are located in the Quarter just off Bourbon away from the river.

The Steak Pit. I can't remember what street it is on, but it is in the FQ. You walk down a few steps from the street. They have the best french onion soup in the world and the steaks are great. Just don't use the restroom. It is scary.
