hole in the wall eateries in maui
 

Headed to Maui at the end of the month. This will be our 3rd trip. We are looking for cheap, good, local style restaurants to eat at in the Kaanapali area. Any suggestions?

We like Aloha Mixed Plate. The food is good and reasonably priced.

I forgot to mention BJ'S Pizza in Lahaina. Have a great time.

Maui Tacos - real fresh Mexican food with a good salsa bar, even a pineapple salsa.

You can get a nice burger and beer at Kimo's on Front Street in Lahaina. The view is right on the ocean and is outstanding.

Kaanapali and Lahaina are tourist areas, so you're not going to find any cheap hole in the wall places. The best places are in Kihei and the other small towns. Da Kitchen in Kihei is the best!!!

I liked the Sunrise Cafe in Lahaina for breakfast and lunch. Moderate to inexpensive. :-)

I heartily agree with Moose's in Lahaina. $1.99 breakfast special and early bird evening dinners with $2 Mai Tais. Don't go for the view (although it is fun to look down at the people on the street), but go for the good time. We just got back from Maui and never miss an opportunity to go there at least once and probably more.

Aloha Mixed Plate is great for lunch.

Most of these suggestions are pretty much on the tourist track. Not too much local in Ka`anapali, what with the 4 million dollar condos and such up there.

Some suggestions, though, might be the Honokowai Okazuya or Mama's Ribs and Rotisserie, Napili. If you want real local food, hole-in-the-wall type places, head to Wailuku. Start on Lower Main with places like Fran's, Rosie's, Tiffany's and Pulehu BBQ.

I agree, you won't find a true hole in the wall in Lahaina or Kaanapali. What you may want to do (in the interest of time and efficiency) is check Wailuku out after you land or before you fly out....since Wailuku is right there by Kahului. I've also found some spots on Dairy Road (like the bagel place) or in Makawao (after you are done with Haleakala.)

Moose McG's was good, but may not be "local style".

Another vote for Honokowai Okazuya, great for takeout. Only a short drive up from the Ka'anapali resorts. Make sure you take cash, because they don't accept credit cards!

For a reasonable breakfast, we liked the clubhouse at Kapalua. Not sure the name of it, but if you drive in the main entrance to the Kapulua Resort, it's the first red building on the right.

Totally agree with MrTraveler and everybody else about Lahaina and Kaanapali. Also agree that Da Kitchen is outstanding!!
