Historic Lexington & Concord Massachusetts
I live in the Boston area and very soon I will be entertaining guests for a weekend and want to take them to see Lexington and Concord, MA for one day of their visit. Does anyone know: 1) Are there any "personal" guides that one can hire who can give more in-depth information on history (one of my guests is a history buff and knows his stuff!) and 2) if we are self-guided, does it make any difference which order we see the two towns?

Start at Minute Man National Historic Park in Concord. There is a good presentation there, and other services as well (I suppose): http://www.nps.gov/mima/index.htm
We also greatly enjoyed the Adams Historical Park in Quincy--especially Peace field (which is closed until April 18): http://www.nps.gov/adam/planyourvisit/index.htm

See the link below for the walking tours that you can arrange using the Concord Guides. You can also reserve a private tour. The Concord Guides do a great job. When I first moved to Concord, I took an six week class at the high school on local history. I found out that the class I took is required training for anyone who wants to join the Concord Guides. Hope you enjoy your visit to Lexington and Concord!
