Hiroshi Eurasion Tapas
Has anyone eaten there? How was it? Thanks.
|
I love it there but it's a little expensive.....
|
How's the food? Anything in particular I must try?
|
Must haves??? Hmm, not for me. It was all good. But a lot of the food is stuff that is available in one form or another if you already live here. Hopefully another tourist may see this post and help....

Thanks, Melissa. Do you have any opinions of the following - Alan Wong's, Chef Mavro, Hoku's? I'm trying to narrow it down to two. Thanks!
|
I think Hoku's is overrated, although the service is always superb.
Alan Wong's and Mavro's is really expensive, but if you do a search on this board you'll see they get many thumbs up for excellent food. In my opinion, well worth the price! |
Great! I think I'll nix Hoku's. Have you tried the tasting menus at Chef Mavro? Are the courses very small (I'm hoping so)?
|
I have.....I think it was the 5 course menu but I asked that they give me only 4 (I wasn't sure if it was too much) and had it paired with wine. The courses were all delicious (love love love the lobster with the foam) and you come away feeling just right--not too full, just satisfied, not needing to eat more. You know what I mean? You don't have to unbuckle your belt or anything!

5 of us just had an excellent dinner at Hiroshi! We sampled the following tapas - Kona kampachi sashimi, seared scallops, and crab cakes. I loved the first two, the third was good too but I'm not really a crab cake person. Then from the larger plates, we had the miso butterfish, filet with foie gras, and breast of duck. All yummy. I thought the prices were quite reasonable. Dinner for 5 including drinks and a dessert came to less than $200.
Tomorrow we'll try Chef Mavro and Alan Wong's the next night :) |
I just had lunch at Hoku's with my relatives. If you still want to try Hoku's, I'd say lunch is an option--not as expensive and dinner, plus you can enjoy the ocean view. The one thing that was disappointing was the service; it was kind of slow compared to dinner. But otherwise, a nice meal!

Thanks for the tip, Melissa! We're flying to Maui tomorrow morning, so Hoku's will have to wait for next time (maybe April). Funny, we actually drove by the Kahala today. It never occurred to me to try lunch though. We loved both Chef Mavro and Alan Wong's. I think the rest of my party liked Alan Wong's just a tad more, but I can't pick a favorite. They're very different.
