A little last minute, leaving for Boston in the morning with my 18 year old daughter. Staying in back bay area...looking for suggestions for a dinner place..something kind of hip or trendy that she would think is "cool," mid to upscale. Also, my husband is looking for the best lobster dinner around, any ideas there? Thanks for any help.

Take a look at Croma on Newbury in the Back Bay. I don't know what constitutes hip these days. Also look at Trident Bookstore Cafe on Newbury Street.

Fire and Ice will be a hit with your daughter.

I wouldn't consider either Fire & Ice or Croma to be that hip.

For hip in the Back Bay go to Sonsie or Match.

Hip? Boston? Actually Mistral is a bit of a scene as is Restaurant L and Sonsie. I agree with Match, too. And for best Lobster dinner...I would have to say first choice: East Coast Grill, second choice: Great Bay and third: Jasper White's Summer Shack. I would highly recommend avoiding Legal Seafoods. It's a chain. It's tired and the menu is sub par. In my opinion.

Summer Shack in Cambridge is far superior to downtown Boston location - it is not that hard to get to - on Red Line of MBTA at Alewife stop. They have lobsters hanging out in huge tanks, do a clambake thing where you get lobster, corn, steamers, etc.

Good seafood is not cheap, so be prepared for price. If you are into raw oysters, they also have the absolutely best oysters in the galaxy - you can pick what types you want from the chalkboard, or ask waitstaff for recommendations for best ones that day.

Regarding Fire and Ice - not exactly "hip", but my 16 and 20 year olds both love it. You select protein, veggies, and other items from salad bar type set-up, pick a sauce and they cook it for you on huge round grill. You can go back as often as you like. My daughter thinks the cooks are always cute.

What's your price range?

I'd say 20-45 per meal. How does that sound??? Only going to be there 2 days, want to make the best of it.

Check on opentable.com. You can make a reservation online and do some research. It will be difficult to get a reservation at the more popular spots. Some of my favorites in the Back Bay and South End are Via Matta, Union Bar and Grill, Cottonwood Cafe, Aquitane, Mistral and Stella. Enjoy.
