Hilton Waikoloa Village lagoon
We are going the first week in August to the Big Island. We will be staying the entire week at the Hilton Waikoloa Village. I saw one report that the snorkeling in the lagoon is cloudy. Do any of you have any input on this. We love to snorkel and will visit a few beaches but is the hotel lagoon at all worthwhile.

We were there two yrs ago, but do not snorkel. Some of the people in our group did snorkel in the lagoon and they said it was beautiful.
|
Do you mean A-Bay? the sides are ok, and there are turtles.

Sylvia,
I'm not sure what A-Bay is. There is a 4 acre salt water lagoon on the Hilton property that has turtles and fish and supposedly octopus. Our grandkids will be with us and I thought if the water is fairly clear it might be a good place to get started snorkeling. We are all experienced at snorkeling. |
Just figured out what A-Bay is by googling it. Last time we were there in 2004 we stayed at the Hapuna Prince so I am trying to reset my bearings.

We snorkeled there in March. The water in the lagoon is generally clear and is a great place to get started snorkling. Saw a variety of fish, turtles and one eel. One end of the lagoon borders an inlet where fresh water mixes with the ocean and it was a bit harder to see underwater in that area.
The pools are also very good. :S- |
