Hilton Times Square Hotel

Can anyone tell me about the Hilton Times Square Hotel? Will be visiting in May and my first choice Doubletree was booked. Would like to know if it is decent and safe.

A brand new hotel that hasn't been open too long. The main entrance to the hotel is on W. 41st between Broadway and 8th Avenue. There is also an entrance on 42nd Street. You almost have to know the entrance is there to find it. I imagine most guests use the 42nd St. entrance since it saves a bit of walking.

Early reports on the hotel have been favorable. The location is safe and extremely convenient to the sights and transportation.

Stayed in this hotel last September right after it opened. Hotel itself was very nice, rooms large and service terrific. Not luxury or anything but still nice. it is right down the street from doubletree. I stay at the doubletree regularly on business and prefer their larger suite rooms, but Hilton's were pretty big too. However, I do not reccommend the location. Yes it is convenient for getting around but there are muh nicer areas of the city to stay in. Next door is a large food court and across the street fom the main entrance is a large arcade. But, if you go out the back door as I did to walk to places like macy's, you come out right next to the Port authority bus terminal and the area is kind of seedy. Lots of pickpockets and street dwellers, undesirables around bus station. also many of those lovely "Adult Toys" shops and x-rated movie and porn places. Not a clean area either. Yes Times Square is better than it used to be but still not an area I care for. No I am not overly paranoid, I live in downtown chicago so am used to street life but not seedy like this. I personally prefer to stay a little further norht and east close to the museums and Fifth Avenue shopping. In fact my favorite hotel within reason is Swisshotel at 57th and Park avenue. the Plaza is wonderful right on central Park but too pricey for me.

Check www.washingtonpost.com. The Post did a big article on NYC this past weekend in the Travel Section, and I think a short review of the Hilton Times Square was included.

To me, the location problem is not so much seediness (no, it's not the cleanest area of midtown, but I don't think it's dangerous or scary or anything), but the fact that I hate that part of Times Square, which is just full of chain restaurants, etc. But just a few minutes' walk takes you away from it, and the hotel is nice. My in-laws stayed there last summer right after it opened, and we stopped by their room. You enter the hotel and take an elevator to the lobby, which is about 15 floors up. Rooms start on the twenty-sonthingth floor, so they are quiet. Also, huge windows with good views; theirs was south-facing and you could see a good chunk of the Hudson. The room was spacious with a huge bed, table and chairs, armchair, and plenty of space to move around. The lobby is nice, as well--modern in design, with large windows IIRC.

I was getting worried, as I could find nothing on this hotel. I think I may look more into other locations. Thanks for the information.
