Hilton Head SC vs. Seagrove FL

Trying to plan a week on the beach late June. We have friends that love HH. We have never been. I have heard HH is really commercial and the water looks more brown than green/blue. It is so hard to tell by looking at online pictures. Seagrove looks to be more white sand/blue water.

Can anyone compare the two for me? Am looking through VRBO for a condo.

Thanks for your advice.

I don't remember the color of the water, and I haven't been to Seagrove so I can't compare, BUT, you should be aware that the beach at Hilton Head is very wide, and hard-packed....great for walking on the beach, but not the soft fluffy sand I like to dig my toes into at the beach.

Thanks. I did hear the beach at HH was great for biking, walking, running. (Tho, I like you, like fluffy) that wouldn't be a deal breaker. It's been years since we've been to the Gulf. I seem to remember Destin as whiter sand/ bluer water and Gulf Shore Al as more brownish? But could be wrong/

Hilton Head has wider, firmer and flatter beaches than Seagrove better for biking, hiking and running. Seagrove has whiter sand and beautiful blue green water. Coastal Carolina has darker ocean water. The Gulf Coast has occassional rip tides that can limit water activity.

Hilton Head has excellent bike paths through pine and oak forests with spanish moss. The inland waterway and creeks are ideal for kayaking. Calibogue Sound has a large dolphin population. Nature cruises visit many coastal bird habitats and see lots of marine life.

Hilton Head has a sizeable year round population so there is the usual retail selection and enough restaurants for the tourist population. I would not agree that it's highly commercial. The island takes great care to minimize signage and preserve natural settings to have tree lined streets with low rise only businesses.

Seagrove is also beautiful with coordinated architecture and maybe the least commercial environment on the Gulf Coast.

I am sure both destinations have their advocates for personal preference of activities. You won't make a bad decision between these two vacations.

I have been to both and would choose Seagrove. It's easier for us to get to Hilton Head. I think the beach along 30A where Seagrove is located is one of the most beautiful in the US

Thank you all very much! This does help. I think we won't go wrong with either choice.
